At Aintree, you might wake up to the cheerful calls of Northern Cardinals, Song Sparrows, Blue Jays, Robins, Pine Warblers, and even the occasional Great Crested Flycatcher.

There have been a few bear sightings in Kincardine area the last few days. Let’s be Bear Aware

🐻 Bear Safety Reminder 🐻

Recently, there have been a couple of bear sightings in the Kincardine area. While it isn't common to see a bear wandering through a neighbourhood, it's important to know what to do if you encounter one.

📞 Who to call

🚨 Call 911 or your local police if a bear poses an immediate threat to personal safety, including if it:
➡️ Enters a school yard while school is in session
➡️ Tries to enter a residence
➡️ Wanders into a public gathering
➡️ Stalks people or lingers nearby
➡️ Kills livestock or pets and remains at the scene

☎️ Call the Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327 (TTY: 705-945-7641) if a bear:
➡️ Roams through a neighbourhood or checks garbage cans
➡️ Breaks into a shed where food or garbage is stored
➡️ Pulls down a bird feeder or knocks over a barbecue
➡️ Moves through a backyard or field without lingering
➡️ Is in a tree
The Bear Wise line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from April 1 to November 30.

🐾 If you encounter a black bear:
➡️ Stay calm and slowly back away while keeping the bear in sight
➡️ Get inside a building or vehicle if one is nearby
➡️ Make noise, wave your arms, or use a whistle or air horn if the bear does not leave
➡️ Prepare to use bear spray if necessary
➡️ Leave bears in trees alone and give them space to come down when they feel safe

❌ Do not:
➡️ Run, climb a tree, or swim
➡️ Approach the bear for a closer look
➡️ Feed the bear
➡️ Let your dog off its leash
➡️ Make direct eye contact

If a bear attacks, use bear spray, leave the area immediately, and fight back with everything you have.
