Our location offers a unique choice of two spectacular sandy beaches. Five of our cottages are located right on the famous Crescent Beach and provide a view of the crashing surf and the island town of Lockeport. The other three cottages are located on the more secluded Buchanan’s Beach which features a quiet cove and a direct view of Gull Rock Lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean. Each of our cottage

s feature unique coastal-style furnishings, top quality beds with duvets, well-equipped full-size kitchens, and a four-piece bathroom. You’ll find everything you need for your holiday along with plenty of storage space to make yourself at home. Our covered decks with rocking chairs and cedar picnic tables provide added outside living space to enjoy the day. @🐧 Just three days later... another unforgettable adventure. 🌊❤️

If you thought watching hours-old Piping Plover chicks take their first steps was incredible, nature had another surprise waiting for us.

Just a short adventure from Seaside Cottages at Ginger Hill, we found ourselves surrounded by one of the Atlantic coast's most beloved birds... Atlantic Puffins! 🐧💙

Watching these amazing little seabirds dart through the sky with beaks full of fish, returning to their nesting burrows, is something you never forget. Every trip out brings another incredible moment, another photograph, and another memory that lasts a lifetime. 🐟📸

That's what makes staying at Seaside Cottages so special. One day you're relaxing in a hammock, walking the quiet beaches, hiking the scenic Ginger Hill trails, or browsing the unique creations of local artisans at the Big Beach Market inside the Lockeport Beach Centre. 🐣💛 The first few hours of life... and we were lucky enough to witness them. 💛

Some afternoons turn into memories you'll never forget. 🌊

While checking on one of the protected Piping Plover nests, We met Emily from the Beach Centre and witnessed something truly incredible. As the tiny chicks began hatching, one of the parent plovers carefully picked up the broken eggshells and carried them away from the nest. 🥚➡️🌾

Why? Because those bright white shells can attract predators. Nature has thought of everything, and these amazing little birds know exactly how to give their babies the best chance at survival. ❤️

Then came the moment everyone hopes for... three healthy Piping Plover chicks had hatched! 🐥🐥🐥

The photo's you're about to see captures their first few hours of life, taking their very first tiny steps across the sand. It's a privilege to witness something so rare in the wild.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, Emily also discovered another Piping Plover nest with two eggs from a different pair! 🥚🥚 It's wonderful news for the future of these endangered birds.

🐕 A Friendly Reminder for Everyone Visiting Our Beaches

Piping Plovers nest directly on the sand and are extremely sensitive to disturbance. Even a friendly dog that gets close to a roped-off nesting area, especially off leash, can cause the adult birds to leave their nest. When that happens, eggs and tiny chicks can quickly become vulnerable to predators, cold temperatures, or the hot summer sun.

Please help these little beach families by:
❤️ Keeping dogs on a leash.
🚧 Staying outside all roped-off nesting areas.
📸 Enjoying them from a respectful distance.

For these photos and videos, heavy cropping and long zoom lenses were used so the birds were never disturbed. Their safety always comes first. 💚

🦅 Adventure by Day, Relaxation by Night 🌊

One of the best parts of staying at Seaside Cottages at Ginger Hill is having the perfect home base for exploring Nova Scotia's South Shore & Beyond.

Today, we took a scenic day trip and were rewarded with one of the most amazing wildlife experiences we've ever had. Along a quiet Pine forest trail, we spotted more than 50 Bald Eagles in just one hour, including majestic adults and young juveniles learning the ways of the wild. There were no crowds, no tour buses, just eagles soaring, perching, and hunting fish in their natural habitat.

The journey itself is part of the adventure. Along the way, you can stop at local markets, bakeries, wineries, sample some of Nova Scotia's award-winning wines, and enjoy the beautiful countryside before heading back to the coast.

After a day of exploring, there's nothing better than returning to Seaside Cottages. Kick off your shoes, sink into a hammock, stroll Crescent Beach, or simply relax on your deck while listening to the waves roll in. 🌅🏖️

🌊 Big Changes at West Head! 🥾🌾

Incredible things happen when a community comes together! We are thrilled to share an update about the West Head Nature Conservancy land—property beautifully donated several years ago by Jane Alexander for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks to an amazing team effort, a massive cleanup and trail improvement project is almost officially complete!

🧹 Cleaning Up & Clearing Out
A dedicated crew took to the land and successfully removed 150 old fence posts wrapped in tangled barbed wire. Clearing out this old debris not only restores the natural beauty of the landscape but also makes the entire area significantly safer for wildlife and hikers alike.

🚶‍♂️ Better Access for Everyone
If you’ve walked the trail before, you know the main path had a habit of turning into a bit of a swamp. To fix this, a new culvert has been installed to properly manage the water flow. This will help dry up the main walkway, making this breathtaking coastal area much more accessible and enjoyable for locals and tourists to explore all season long.

Tiny Neighbors, Big Milestones! 🌊🐦
We have some incredibly exciting news from the shoreline! Our local Piping Plovers are officially getting ready to welcome the next generation.

If you look closely at the photos, you can see one of our resident plovers staying perfectly camouflaged and dutifully sitting on a nest right in the beach grass!

To help protect these tiny, endangered beach dwellers during this critical nesting season, a section of Crescent Beach has been safely roped off. When you're out enjoying the sand, please give these hardworking parents plenty of space and keep an eye out for their amazing camouflage.
