What's up with the rhubarb!?

My size 11 foot is on that leaf!! The stalks are as thick as my wrist! ✋I revamped the bed last year after I thought I had a good crop and had never imagined it could grow like this! Wow! I've already harvested 34 cups of rhubarb and haven't even made a dent in the patch! ️

I had more wonderful guests this week... the season is almost upon us! Looking forward to meeting all the amazing, animal lovers who will grace us with their presence this summer! ❤️

When I call the animals at bedtime... I yell SHEEEEP... and the sheep think I've let Argibel loose and they know it's safer just to come running when called! Zephyra goes where the sheep go and looks amazing flying over the ditch! Sunday & Friday keep with the program too. Bedtime! 🛌

Got the wool dropped off at MacAusland Woolen Mill in Bloomfield, PEI today! We kept in contact with the owner Monica (the mill has been in her family for six generations!) And she stayed late after closing to meet us and accept the wool. There was one tote and 36 feed bags of wool shoved in the back of my truck!

Although they don't usually do tours of the mill, since it was closed, she kindly walked us through the different areas and she explained some of the processes. It was fascinating really. The mill is 300 years old!

The bridge over to PEI is very long... and it was completely empty! I wondered how zero people were leaving PEI? We saw no one in either direction for almost 10 minutes/11 km of driving! Then we came to the 🚧 👷‍♂️ 🏗 🚧 CONSTRUCTION! Soon there were lots of cars coming and we were stopped ✋️

But it was about the prettiest view I've ever had in a construction stop!

Clayton kept commenting all across PEI how picturesque everything looked... and how every lawn was manicured... and how perfect the houses looked. He wondered if there was a law against ugliness? 😄

After the mill, a quick stop at a park, 1.5 hour drive to our 2 bedroom cottage Airbnb for the night.

Brandy and Argibel are glued to me, unsure of what's going on and why we are here.

Tomorrow I'm fulfilling a promise... and we are taking Brandy to the beach ⛱️ for the first time in her 11 years. She's always been on guard and never wanted to leave her post before... but she's earned a vacation and a trip to the beach. (Yes, Argibel is going to the beach too but she's traveled a lot and been on many beaches ⛱️ but hates traveling because she gets car sick...) Donnamira and Spotty are home guarding the farm and we've got someone doing chores and sleeping over, so we can have this opportunity, knowing all is well. ❤️

The adventure begins ✨️

My boy, Clayton and I, with two of our trusty companions, Brandy & Argibel are enroute to Prince Edward Island!

We are making a trip to MacAusland's Woolen Mill with a whole pile of wool! 🐑

I had no idea how it all would fit, but the boy doesn't give up!

We had our wool from 3 years, a friend's wool and lucked into 30 more fleeces through our wonderful shearer. 🐑

First he jam packed our wool last night, then we got up early to do chores and were on the road by 8! I was so excited, as our first stop was at the farm we've wanted to buy for a whole year.

Five minutes down the road, I say, I've forgotten the big camera. Should we go back. No. Five more minutes down the road, Clayton says, He's forgotten his sunglasses. We decide no. We're too far away, it would put us too far behind. Forty five minutes in, I realize I've forgotten my purse. 😞

There was no cell service. I turned around and missed my turn because the GPS wouldn't connect. We drove back home wasting all the time we'd planned to spend at the potential new place, 1.5 hours gone!

Started over at 9:30am.

Had a far too short visit then off to pickup the giant wool bag - our truck was already full!!

I don't know how he managed it, but with ratchet straps and willpower, he got all the wool, all of our overnight stuff and the new bag shoved in there and closed the tailgate! We've been driving non-stop... it's 2:22. Lunch would normally be required but we were stuffed with fresh biscuits at the new place, even though pressed for time.

The woolen mill closes at 4 but a wonderful lady, Monica, is waiting around for us... since it is a long way and we had a slow start!

We just crossed into New Brunswick...

I can post because the boy is driving!

Glad to be having a little adventure with the boy before he heads to Ontario for 8 weeks, leaving on June 18th.

The wool will eventually become products in our new shop... this wool will not be ready to be picked up for 3 to 4 months!

I'll open the shop eventually with other products coming before the wool ones!

Well, my boy turned 17 yesterday and suddenly became a calf whisperer! I've been keeping Sunday in a stall overnight so I can milk her in the morning but since we're almost out of hay, I decided perhaps young Friday would eat less in a pen at night. That was fine to think that, but trying to convince Friday that it was a good idea, was something else!

I haven't had a halter on her in a long while and I'd pretty much exhausted my ways of catching her. Next thing I know, Clayton offers to help and we tried together for a few minutes to no avail. I leave and he's like hey mom look at this! She's following him around like the pied piper. He got the halter on her and led her into the pen! I've left the halter on for now so even I can catch her then 😄

On Sunday, (the day of the week, not the cow) Clayton had a few friends over for his birthday party... he just didn't tell them it was his birthday haha 😆

Clayton made delicious homemade from scratch pizza for his birthday supper last night... made the crust and pizza 🍕 sauce. It was delicious 😋

We had the virtual tour done today and he made these wonderful hanging pit holders - 11 of them - and this cute sign for next to the guest entrance.

I'm going to miss the boy when he leaves on the 18th for the longest time we've ever been apart... 8 weeks!

We're so blessed to have had some wonderful guests here on the weekend! The animals are happily out on the grass.

I put all the veggies and flowers out last Sunday since it was "supposed to warm up at night"... and it's been anything but warm going down to 0°C every night this week! Covering the plants with wet blankets in the wind and rain? Awesome! 👌 Every night the farm looks like a spooky ghost town! I put all my insulated clothes back on, including boots. Will be happy for the sun to shine again soon! 🌞

We have been waiting for a sunny day to take the virtual tour after the leaves came out and in the meantime, we've gotten apple blossoms and lilacs but as of yet, no sunshine! Here's to hoping the sunshine on Wednesday will be met by lots of flowers 💐 ✨️ 💛

We have a dozen hanging pots of beautiful flowers waiting patiently indoors for the warm and gentle weather that surely must be coming soon! 😀

Happy 11th Birthday to Brandy and Litter B, May 29th!

Yesterday, Litter B and our beautiful Brandy celebrated their 11th Anniversary of life!

I told Brandy in the morning that she would get roast beef and gravy for her birthday... 🥳 it was a rainy day and she mostly refused to go out, expecting that very soon roast beef would be arriving on a platter. She was less than impressed that she had to wait the entire day for her special 🍽 dinner! The roast beef disappeared quite quickly so not enough time for pictures! 😄

Next weekend, we are taking her on a birthday adventure. Brandy has never been to a beach ⛱️ and she has been waiting her whole life. We are treating her to a trip to Prince Edward Island 🏝 I'm sure we will find a beach for her there! It's so cold at the moment that no one would want to be at the beach!

A glitch in the matrix?

Today we had a work day.

Clayton had his friend Julia over and they worked for six hours on clean-up before the virtual tour pictures which will be taken… um… sometime in the near future. We seem to have a moving target for that now. Originally thought to list the property on May 1st but now aiming for the 15th although my new criteria for that to happen is that the leaves must be on the trees. I look every day and today I see a little something starting to show through.

Last year we listed the property and took an outdoor virtual tour when everything was white with snow. Then in the summer it was updated during the drought and everything was brown. This year I am waiting until everything is GREEN! It is such a pretty farm and its beauty needs to be showcased!

Clayton and Julia:

- took down about a million and a half cobwebs in the barn

- picked up all the branches from the lawn and pasture

- picked up all the manure that got spread across the driveway and back lawn the other week when we had the manure spread

- then I had them spread it by hand back in the field where is should have gone in the first place

- they cleaned out the chick coop (to make ready for the little ones in our incubators)

- Julia cleaned out the duck pen while Clayton made us supper

- they treated our horse Zephyra to a much needed spa treatment – spring hair removal

They completed the entire list I made for them and it was much more fun with two people and took for sure less than half of the time it would have taken one person.

I am very grateful to have so many check marks off the master To-Do List!

Sacred Journey to a Harvest of Wisdom is taking a pause for March.

We’re using this time to thoughtfully reshape the gathering so it works well for everyone involved.
