They say it takes a village, but here in Morell, PEI, it takes a wharf full of incredible neighbors!
Today was an absolute blast running our Oyster Lovers Kayak Experience out of Red Head Wharf, but right before setup, we hit a classic pre-tour panic: the local gas station and grocery store were completely out of ice.
Fresh oysters and no ice? Not a good combo!
Enter our amazing partners at Atlantic Shellfish 🇨🇦 , who grow and process right here in town. They allow us to use their oyster lease for our tour and also provide us with the most delicious and freshest oysters you can get! When they saw the bind we were in, they suggested heading next door to PEI Mussel King .
I walked through the doors hoping for a miracle, and was met with warm smiles and instant PEI hospitality. Without missing a beat, the crew handed over a massive bag of ice, way more than we even needed!
Just like that, crisis averted, our oysters stayed ice-cold, and today’s tour was a total hit.
That is what makes living and working in Morell so special. Small-town community isn’t just a phrase here; it’s everybody stepping up to help a neighbor in a pinch.
Local Shoutout Alert!
While we’re talking about incredible local businesses, you HAVE to check out Mussel King’s educational boat tour, Mussel Bound Boat Tours !! You meet right at the plant, head down to the wharf, and take a boat out to a real mussel lease to learn all about the world of mussel farming, right from the experts! If you haven’t checked them out yet, add it to your PEI bucket list ASAP!
A huge, heartfelt thank you to the team at Mussel King and the Mussel Bound crew for saving the day. We are beyond grateful for this community!
