🐢 Did you know, June is peak nesting season for turtles?
From May to July, female turtles are on the move, often crossing roads to find sandy spots to lay their eggs.
To help keep them safe, drive slowly, watch road shoulders, and if it’s safe, help a turtle cross in the direction it was already heading.
How to handle a snapping turtle
🐢 An uninjured snapper can be gently guided across the road using a shovel or a board.
🐢 If you must lift one, slide your hand underneath from behind (like lifting a tray) and support the tail without pulling.
🐢 Keep the turtle away from your body; snappers can reach halfway around their shell.
🐢 Never pick up a turtle by the tail.
