It’s September again. 🤍

And honestly, it’s such a beautiful time to be at Black River Cottages

Warm days by the water, cooler evenings around the fire, quieter days in the County, and just a little more room to slow down and enjoy it all.

The wineries, farm stands and little towns are still waiting to be explored, the water is still calling, and there’s something really lovely about coming back to your cottage at the end of the day when the evenings start to feel a little cozier.

September here is pretty special.

I sometimes wonder if our guests know how much we genuinely love seeing them enjoy this place.

Seeing someone find their favourite chair by the water. Hearing laughter drifting across the property. Watching the kids run around like they’ve known the place forever. Seeing families slow down, reconnect and simply enjoy being together.

And then there are the familiar faces, the families who come back year after year, the kids we get to watch grow, and the guests who arrive for the first time and tell us before they’ve even left that they want to come back. That part will never get old.

Black River is our home, and sharing this little piece of it with all of you is something we’re incredibly grateful to be able to do.

We hope when you’re here, even if it’s only for a few days, it feels a little bit like yours too. 💙

The kind of summer afternoon I wish I could bottle up and keep forever. ❤️

Two little cousins wandering along the waterfront, completely lost in their own adventure — looking for worms, investigating everything they find, and stopping every few steps because something new has caught their attention.

No destination and nowhere they need to be.

Just childhood exactly as it should be — curious, messy, unhurried and spent outside with someone you love.

I hope they always remember summers like this — days spent outside, exploring freely, getting dirty, and finding adventure in the most ordinary places.

She’s busy collecting memories... one pebble at a time.

Sometimes the best childhood moments don’t need batteries, screens, or a plan. Just a quiet shoreline, a pocket full of stones, and all the time in the world.

That’s the kind of summer we hope families take home from Black River Cottages.

🦉✨ A morning we’ll never forget.

What started as a simple walk with my daughters turned into one of those magical moments nature gives you when you least expect it. Tucked quietly among the trees, we spotted this beautiful family of owls watching the world wake up.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we love calling Black River home. Every season brings new surprises, and sharing them with our children makes them even more special.

If you slow down, keep your eyes open, and listen to the sounds around you, you never know what incredible wildlife you might discover during your stay.

It’s one more reason we never get tired of calling Black River home. 💙

When you choose Black River Cottages, you’re choosing more than just a place to stay.

You’re choosing slow mornings with a cup of coffee by the water.

You’re choosing evenings where the soundtrack is birdsong instead of traffic.

You’re choosing space for children to run barefoot, parents to truly unwind, and families to reconnect.

And every once in a while... nature gives you a gift you never expected.

This beautiful swan family has made our waterfront their home for a little while, quietly raising their cygnets just steps from the cottages.

Watching them glide across the water reminds us that the most meaningful moments are rarely the ones we plan, they’re the ones that simply unfold when we slow down enough to notice.

It’s moments like these that make this little corner of Prince Edward County feel so special.

Not because we created them...
But because we’re fortunate enough to share them.

Last night’s rainbow stretched right across Black River, and it got us thinking about the old saying that there’s a pot of gold waiting at the end of every rainbow. 🌈

As we watched it settle over the property, we couldn’t help but smile and wonder if perhaps the rainbow had already found its destination.

For us, the real treasure isn’t gold at all. It’s summer days on the water, children catching frogs, campfires under the stars, family reunions, and the memories made here year after year.

We’d like to think the rainbow was pointing to Black River Cottages. ✨

A gentle reminder that summer isn’t meant to be rushed.

One day, these will be the moments you miss.

The people gathered around the table.
The evening swims.
The campfires.
The sunsets.
The simple joy of being together.

Summer isn’t measured in productivity.
It’s measured in memories.

Make a few good ones. ❤️

Some projects take years before you see the results. 🫐

Today we planted a row of blueberry bushes that will grow, mature, and hopefully provide plenty of berries in the years ahead.

One of the things we love most about this place is caring for it with the future in mind.

Every season brings new improvements, and every small step helps make Black River Cottages a little more beautiful than it was before.

Here’s to future summers, blueberry picking, and watching things grow. 💙
