🎣 Walleye Weekly Update! 🎣

Well, the fish were definitely biting this week — and we had some absolute anglers in camp! Groups were on fire, the numbers were fantastic, and there were multiple BIG fish hitting the nets!

And YES… FINALLY! An official OVER 30-INCHER! 🙌🎉

We don't push our numbers around here or say “close enough!” 😂 If you're joining that 30" club, we're making you show us the official prize!

Love it, Colin! 30.25"! 🏆🎣 We were so excited that we forgot to even ask Colin if this was his biggest walleye! Probably not… the guy is an absolute slayer out on the water! 😂

With the annual Red Lake Fall Classic coming up this weekend, it's great to see so many nice, healthy fish out there! We have 3 tournament teams and some amazing committee members staying with us throughout tournament week, and we're looking forward to all the excitement.

We want to wish ALL the teams the very best of luck this weekend! Stay safe, have fun, and hopefully there are a few more of those big girls waiting to hit the nets! 🎣🏆

🎣 WE DID IT!!! Well… Collin did it! 😂

After numerous 29-inchers, we FINALLY have the elusive 30-INCH WALLEYE! 🙌🎉🎣

Collin has been a guest here at Five Lakes Lodge for many, many years. He’s an avid fisherman and now makes the trip up a couple of times a year. His “spring trip” crew is one of our bigger groups — and I’m pretty sure they also hold the record for the BIGGEST BAIT BILL of the season! 😂

Well, Collin… IT PAID OFF!

We couldn’t be happier for him! After all those fish and all those almost 30s, he finally put a 30-INCH WALLEYE on the board! 🏆

And you know what that means…

👕 He DEFINITELY gets the coveted 28"+ Walleye Club T-shirt!

🤗 And he’s going to have to stay up late enough to collect that big ol’ hug from none other than IAN! 😂 I might even throw one in too!

Congratulations, Collin!! What a fish and what a way to finally break the 30-inch mark!

🥧 RECIPE OF THE WEEK! 🥧

This week we’re featuring Val’s Rhubarb Sour Cream Pie!

This is definitely one of my favs! The creamy custard combined with the tartness of the rhubarb... MMMmmm! 😋

Val has been whipping up this pie for decades, and it’s the perfect way to use up our abundance of rhubarb!

Everyone always says they love strawberry rhubarb pie... until they taste this sweet, creamy and tart delight! ❤️

🎣 Walleye Weekly Update! 🎣

Well… the added push for that elusive 30" walleye did NOT help! 😂 We tried! But the good news is—the fishing was still great!

As we continue to cool off, the fish are starting to head a little deeper and will soon begin fattening up for winter. Sooooo… maybe that big old 30-incher is just waiting for fall to make its appearance! 🤞🎣

What a beautiful weather week we had here at Five Lakes Lodge! The mornings were cool, the days were warm, and one morning we even dipped down to 41°F! 🥶 A few of our guests decided their warm blankets were a little more appealing than an early morning takeoff that day and pushed their fishing departure back a bit! 😂

Definitely no need for the air conditioning anymore… and it might just be time for us to start adding a few extra blankets to the cabins!

Fall is definitely starting to creep into Northwestern Ontario, and we absolutely love this time of year. 🍂🎣

Now come on, walleye… SHOW US THE 30"! 😂

🫐 RECIPE OF THE WEEK! 🫐

Ian’s Mom’s Very Secret, Very Delicious Cinnamon Blueberry Sauce!

Ian’s mom, Cathy, has been serving up this amazing blueberry sauce for years, and it’s definitely a favourite of Jemma’s — right up there with Lemon Meringue Pie! 😂💙

Cathy is an avid blueberry picker and loves grabbing some of the girls in camp and trekking off to her secret blueberry spots! 🤫🫐 Over the years, it has become quite the tradition with some of our guests too!

And apparently blueberries aren’t JUST for dessert around here... some of our guests have whipped up some pretty delicious blueberry cocktails with their freshly picked berries! 🍹😂

If you’re lucky enough to make this recipe with fresh, wild Northwestern Ontario blueberries, it takes it to a whole other level! There’s just nothing quite like them.

And if you’re local and following our page — GET OUT THERE! 🫐🫐🫐 The berries are ABUNDANT this year!
