A van Horne tidbit

It's Throwback Thursday! Did you know that Sir William Van Horne was the general manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway?

Born in Joliet, Illinois, Van Horne began working for the Illinois Central Railway at just 14 years old. He quickly advanced to the position of telegraph officer, and in 1881, he came to Canada as general manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Van Horne was given 10 years to complete the railway project, but was able to complete it in just four and a half years. In 1885, the final spike was driven in Craigellachie, British Columbia, marking the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

In this photo, Sir William Van Horne can be seen standing beside Donald Smith, who is driving the last spike.

Our most recent addition: a wicker bench with linen cushion picked up this morning from the The Cuckoo’s Nest Estate Sales Saint Andrews. This piece can be found in the blue room in the apartment. We have yet to name them so any suggestions are welcome! There is a mushroom brown room and this blue room up for naming.

I’m (Zainub) in South Korea for a week and I’ve been chatting to locals about how beautiful and quaint Saint Andrews is. It’s hard to describe the charm this little town has but I found this picture is a great way to show what Saint Andrews has to offer. I’m going to try and source a few pieces to bring back to the inn so keep an eye on the stories the next few days.
