THE BEARS AND THE PEARS
Scent of fruit is in the air.
The pears over there
fell victim to bears.
There was momma bear,
with cubs as a pair,
then Fred the bear,
with pear in his hair.
From our deck we safely stare.
The bears don't care,
they just eat their fare
before the winter air
beds them in their lair.

Last night's sunset was absolutely spectacular!!!
It was challenging to capture the incredibly vivid hues of the fiery clouds against a multi-blue coloured sky seen by the naked eye but I managed with reasonably good success.
Zooming in closer as the light began to fade, Merry Island Lighthouse was shining it's light every 15 seconds, as if begging to be included in the scene. I was happy to oblige.
Prior to the magically colourful display, a faint sundog of sorts appeared in the clouds to the left of the Trail Islands.
Always amazed at the beauty we are surrounded by!!

The setting sun seemed a little angry on Friday night...
After the first two photos in this series you'll see what I'm getting at. I put the two later shots first because I thought the scenes were the most eye-catching.
The smoke filtered Sun had dropped through some cloud on it's way down to the tips of the trees behind West Sechelt. I almost appeared to pull the cloud down with it. As it began to drop behind the the mountains, the forest was backlit by the giant fiery orb, sunspots evident through the filtered light.
A bit earlier, the Sun wore a mask of clouds that gave it an angry appearance. The 'face' looked straight into the camera's lens then glanced off to my left before the mask was left behind to hang in the sky for the remainder of the show.

The "Path", moving forward...
More specifically, the Baltic 146 yacht named "Path" as she moved forward across our view the other evening. First appearing in our view heading south as she emerged from behind the Trail Islands.
The height of the mast was what first caught my eye as she came into sight. This 146 foot yacht boasts a single mast that is 171 feet tall! For reference, that is taller than the highest passenger deck on any of the cruise ships that run to Alaska from Vancouver. What does that actually look like? Well, I've included a couple of photos of "Path" before and after she passed behind the cruise ship "Disney Wonder".
This gorgeous sailing superyacht has many amazing features, one of which is the "largest solar system ever installed on a sailing yacht" according to Baltic Yachts' website. The 646 square foot solar array generates up to 8kW of power to keep the battery bank fully charged, enabling all electronic systems onboard to run for 14 to 18 hours each day.
The sails on "Path" are also amazing. The mainsail is 530 sq.m. (5700 sq.ft.). There are three furled upwind sails totalling 895 sq.m. (9635 sq.ft.), and a 'code zero reacher' sail which is 850 sq.m. (9150 sq.ft). The total sail area onboard is a whopping 4075 sq.m. (43,865 sq.ft.). That's a LOT of fabric!!!
I would love to be on board this beauty under sail!

Two beautiful Dancer canoes from Shishalh (Sechelt) Nation and S-yewens Ihems sila (Spirit of our Grandmothers) Canoe Family were out for a paddle from Selma park to White Islets and back on Thursday evening. What a beautiful and impressive sight it is to see these modern versions of traditional style canoes plying local waters, and to hear commanding voices singing songs in local language as they pass.
