We just finished plumbing our third potable water cisten which can be found next to campsite #9 on our lower loop. It is outfitted with a tap to fill your water just and a 2 inch outlet for us to hook up our fire pump incase of emergency. It is scheduled to be filled on Friday just in time to help keep our weekend campers hydrated. Thanks again Mr. Tank in Sooke for hooking us up yet again.

One of the absolute best things you can do while visiting Vancouver Island is to take a walk though an old growth forest. The Ancient forest alliance has updated their map which will help you find the big trees.

We’ve recently updated the Port Renfrew Big Trees Map to make it easier to find and explore some of the most remarkable trees, groves, and parks in the region — along with key local businesses.

The latest version includes revised driving directions to the San Juan Spruce and Red Creek Fir (the road has changed!), the location and trail at Eden Grove, and detailed routes to iconic giants like Big Lonely Doug, Harris Creek Spruce, and more.

Sometimes life will throw you a curveball. Family is priority one and this business is priority number two. I am not sure how far down the list creating content for social media is but it is something that has had to be put on the back burner in the last few weeks as we simply had no time for it. As another weekend is winding down I came into the office today to find this lovely note on the desk and I just wanted to say thank you Brittany, Henry, Stella and Midnight. You made an incredibly beautiful day that much brighter, we look forward to seeing you again and I hope to meet your adventure cat next time :)

One of the trails to our beach south of Sandcut starts across the highway from our entrance. The trail is a relatively easy hike which takes about a minute to travel. From the north end of the beach there is a trail that will take you up behind the cabin and back down to Sandcut or you can take the upper trail which takes you to the top of the waterfall and along Sandcut creek. From the creek there is another trail that you can take which crosses under the highway bridge over Sandcut creek and will take you back up to the campground. We made this video to show you one of the options our guests who are looking to hit the beach have.

We have had a few especially low tides in the last week or so. We managed to make it down to the beach for one today and thought we should share the view.

Campfire ban will be lifted for the long weekend. From the CBC

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) will rescind a campfire ban that was in effect across B.C.'s South Coast since last Thursday, saying current and forecasted weather conditions have meant wildfire risk has reduced.

A statement from the Coastal Fire Centre on Tuesday said that the campfire ban — the earliest such prohibition since records began being tracked in 2003 — was implemented due to prolonged hot and dry conditions across southwest B.C.

However, the fire centre said that an improving wildfire outlook means that campfires will once again be permitted starting at noon PT on Friday, May 15, ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend.

"Current and forecast conditions have since shifted, bringing cooler temperatures, improved humidity values and an overall reduction in wildfire hazard throughout the Coastal Fire Centre," the statement said.

Campfires — which fall under Category 1 fires, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service — are fires that are no more than half a metre high by half a metre wide.

A fire information officer had told CBC News that the Category 1 fire ban, which went into effect on the South Coast last Thursday, is the earliest time that prohibition has been enacted since the fire centre started tracking prohibitions in 2003.

We do have a stands of beautiful second growth trees on the property but only have a few old growth trees that were spared. One of them is this beautiful red cedar which is marked on our sitemap and is about a two minute hike from the trailhead which starts across from campsite 11. Being so twisted is probably the only reason why it was not felled long ago.

We were fully booked for the weekend for a private event but have opened up the lower loop ( campsites 2-10 ) for public bookings as our guests decided they did not need all the sites after all. We have some warmer weather coming this weekend and a handful of beautiful sites available if you want to come up for a visit and see what we have been working on.
