Employee appreciation post!!!

Living and working remotely can be a real challenge especially when you move 5 hours north for your job without knowing anyone in the area. But that’s just what Bailey did back in May! She took a leap of faith and we are so thankful she did.

It was our busiest season to date and we wouldn’t have made it through without her hard work and dedication. She experienced some of the craziest weather systems we have ever had, watched the aurora light up the sky, caught some massive fish and experienced Lake Temagami through a local lens.

If you had the good fortune to meet Bailey this summer then you know she deserves more than just a post on an app. She has a way of bringing positive light to everyone she meets and is always a spot of sunlight on a cloudy day. Her joy radiates outwards and everyone who crosses her path gets to experience that.

Last night we took the boat to town for a feast at The Outfitter Bar & Smokehouse to show our appreciation for her hard work over the summer. It was a perfect night to unwind, enjoy some good food and celebrate our hard work!

It is no secret that children LOVE their stuffies and use them to cope with all of their big feelings. So imagine how heart broken we were when we found Whaley stuck between the wall and the bed on a check out day. It was instant panic! We know how most kids would handle the news that their beloved stuffed animal was stuck on an island in Northern Ontario!

We immediately sprung into action-first texting the parents so they would be aware of this crisis and then secondly making sure Whaley received all the love and enrichment necessary to survive his new found loneliness.

Whaley stopped to smell the roses, had a sauna, enjoyed the canoe, climbed the dive platform, took in the view and hung out with Sue, Ted and Jeremiah before taking a boat ride across to the mainland to be reunited with his person! In a moment of serendipity his family had chosen to climb the firetower before heading back to Toronto which means that they were in the area when we noticed Whaley had been left behind.

We really do take customer service very seriously around here!

Steve sent us a lovely email on Wednesday night, but Steve likely used a fake name and he definitely used a fake email so I can’t even email him back to tell him how valuable his input is to me!

The thing is-we are aware that the light is really bright. We live here remember? The Ket Chun Eny Light has been a navigation beacon for a very very long time on this lake, long before we moved here and long before Steve came for a visit.

When it is NOT on people are reaching out upset and when it IS on people are also reaching out upset.
We have been here for three years now and we haven’t come up with a solution that leaves everyone happy. The old halogen bulb that was costing us money died and we had it replaced with an energy efficient bulb. And yes it is significantly brighter and we have been searching for a solution for months.

I do need to point out that you can see the Milky Way in the first picture and I took that picture while that light was on!

So perhaps a courteous email would have been a better option since that’s so important to you Steve! Also learning the history of the lake and understanding that light has been there for many many many years long before us is helpful too!

Anyways I digress! Please share your thoughts on how we can make everyone happy with this gosh darn yard light 🧐

Should we get rid of it? Put it on a timer?
Switch it out entirely? Let us know!

And a big shout out to Steve because without his email we never would have known how bright the light was!

Traveling fish fry?!!

Last night we had the great pleasure of hosting a fish fry for a gentleman and his friends and family on his island.

We have hosted a number of fish fries over the years but this was a unique experience for everyone! Rielly has plenty of experience cooking dockside after his years of working near Red Lake in northwestern Ontario but this was a bit different!

The kitchen pontoon was the star of show but only until the food came out. We served fried walleye, fresh local corn, smoked baked beans, roasted potatoes, coleslaw, pies and the infamous skillet cookie! If you know you know 😉

Imagine a delicious fish fry meal, no clean up just relaxation and good conversation? It's the dream!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and cannot wait to do it again!

We were so excited to put this new to us rental boat in the water in the spring and it’s been booked almost the entire summer so we haven’t even had a chance to share about it!

The newest addition to our fleet is a 16.5’ Lund Rebel with a 60HP Yamaha on it. The boat is equipped with console steering, live well, padded swivel seats, rod holders and a Helix 7! We absolutely love this boat and some days we are sad it is a rental because we love it so much!

ALSO if you are looking to really increase your chances of catching a tank you have the option of adding one of our new Minn Kota Powerdrive trolling motors to the rental for an added fee. The trolling motor has a spotlock feature which essentially anchors your boat at the touch of button using the motor. Its a great option for people who enjoy jigging or casting at specific structure. As far as we know we are the only operators that offer a spotlock option on a rental boat in the area.

If you are looking for some September fishing fun we have some availability from mid September onwards. And in our humble opinion that is the best time to fish and also one of the most beautiful times to be on the lake 🎣 🌅

Last week we had the joy of hosting our friends and family on the island for a week! When we first started doing this part of our dream was to share our love of Temagami with our loved ones!

Watching our friends share this beautiful place with their children while making lasting lifetime memories brings us such a sense of fulfillment. It can be emotional and surreal at times to watch people fall in love with something you hold so close to your heart.

Anyways I digress! Our brother in law Jake caught his PB walleye while out fishing with Rielly one morning, the meteor shower was incredible, the beach was the highlight of the week, charcuterie night was outstanding and the sunsets were perfect!

Imagine this: you are fishing on Lake Temagami, the sunset has turned the sky into a watercolor painting of pinks and oranges. The water is calm and lapping at your boat and you feel relaxed. Just when you think you couldn’t feel more at peace a pair of loons start singing their songs while swimming right past you.

The loons singing their eerie yet beautiful songs will always be a favorite part of a Temagami vacation for many people-and for good reason!

32.5” on Canada Day morning while there is a power outage?!

Nasya was about to call it on Wednesday morning when this unicorn of a walleye smashed her line. This is now her personal best which is gonna be a tough one to beat!!
