Good Tuesday morning, everyone! Let's talk World Cup!
For Nick, it's pretty straightforward: Canada all the way. 🇨🇦
For me, it's a little more complicated. As an Iranian Canadian, my love for Iran—its people, culture, and history—doesn't always line up with the current Iranian national team. National pride and football loyalty aren't always the same thing. My Iranian pride lies with the brave and resilient people of Iran. Many of us feel that a team competing under the name "Islamic Republic of Iran" and bending under the pressure of the regime doesn't truly represent the country or its people.
We're also wondering if the World Cup is becoming a game for the wealthy. Once upon a time, ordinary fans could save up and follow their team. Today, between ticket prices, travel, and accommodation, many lifelong supporters are being priced out of the experience. Watching a World Cup match in person has always been one of my dreams, but I simply couldn't justify the cost.
The World Cup is still about passion, community, and bringing the world together. But who gets to be part of that celebration?
