The GTHA team was pleased to celebrate the start of the summer season at One King West Hotel & Residence earlier this week.

From delicious food to spectacular city views, it was the perfect setting to connect, reflect on a busy spring, and look ahead to the months ahead. A special thank you to the staff at One King West for their warm hospitality and for showcasing such a fantastic event space (Fifteen Hundred) in the heart of Toronto.

As we wrap up our student spotlight series and transition back into our regular features, we are excited to spotlight recent graduate Taylor Hopkins from Alt Hotel Toronto Airport 🌟

Taylor is a Sales Coordinator and recent graduate of the Hospitality Management: Hotel Operations program at George Brown, as well as a GTHA Scholarship recipient. Although she has only been in the industry for 5 months, she has already made a strong impact through her creativity, attention to detail, and passion for guest experiences.

One of Taylor's biggest standout moments so far has been helping coordinate Swarovski's 4-day Store Manager Training event at Alt Hotel Toronto Airport. From catering and transportation to personalized touches like custom smoothie labels, Swarovski-branded macaroons, and floral centrepieces, the event became the hotel's highest revenue-generating single event since opening in 2012.

Looking ahead, Taylor hopes to continue growing within the Le Germain family and one day move into a senior leadership role, such as Director of Sales.

Thank you, Taylor, for being one of the many incredible faces of hospitality!

✨ Student Spotlight: Meet Libby Worden 🎒

As we wrap up our student spotlight for the month of May, we are proud to feature Libby, who is heading into her fifth and final year of the Hospitality and Tourism Management co-op program at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Libby has gained a wide range of experience across the industry, from working as a Guest Experience Expert at the Delta Grand Okanagan to contributing to the Canadian University Sales Competition through the Ted Rogers Sales Leadership Program, and completing a Valuation and Consulting internship with HVS Montreal. Through these roles, she has developed a strong understanding of both operations and the business side of hospitality.

Inspired by her passion for helping people and influenced by her mom's career in the industry, Libby chose hospitality as a path that combines business with meaningful human connection. Over time, her interests have evolved toward the hotel real estate sector, where she hopes to use her strengths in analytics and storytelling to support ownership decisions, with the long term goal of owning and managing her own properties.

💬 Advice for students considering hospitality
Don't be discouraged if your first role doesn't feel like the right fit. Libby emphasizes the importance of exploring different paths within the industry to find what truly aligns with your strengths and interests.

One of her most memorable experiences was receiving the Air Canada Future Leaders Award at TIAO's Tourism Summit, where she had the opportunity to speak in front of over 500 industry professionals and advocate for student voices in hospitality.
