This Saturday evening, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra descends on Danceland to bring to life the stories of the Flora, Fauna and Storied Skies of Riding Mountain.

Before that day arrives, I need to take a minute to say ‘out loud’ how incredibly humbled and grateful I am for the people who have come together to bring Orchestra in the Forest to life, particularly this year.

My family, dear friends, an incredible community of creative, hardworking and generous women, alongside colleagues from across the province and some of Manitoba’s most remarkable artists and performers, have given so much of their time, talent and care. Not only to this event, but to me personally. It means more than I can put into words.

Orchestra in the Forest has always been about celebrating Clear Lake Country — the place we call home. The land, the stories, the people and the beauty around us. It’s also where the idea for Found Wild began, rooted in that same love of place and a philosophy I was raised with.

“𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙.”

To see possibility in what surrounds you. To believe that if you can imagine something, you can build it, grow it or make it with your own two hands.

During the lead-up to Orchestra in the Forest this year, I’ve had to learn to lean on others more than I’m used to. Watching people step forward, share their talents and make this idea their own has been both beautiful and overwhelming.

Thank you for your generosity, creativity and kindness, and for seeing what’s possible with what we have right here. I feel so fortunate to create alongside you.

For those joining us on Saturday, this event really is magic, and we cannot wait to share it with you.

Fortitude, resilience, honesty, integrity and hard work all describe Chef lurii Frolov.

Four years ago, lurii joined us at Lakehouse. Since then, he has continued to grow in his role and responsibilities, becoming an incredible leader for our teams and an essential part of the success of both Lakehouse and Danceland.

We don’t speak the same language, but Lurii understands what Lakehouse is about and what we’re trying to build here. He cares about bringing people together, supporting those around him and creating something meaningful in this community.

Lurii has been through more than most people can imagine in his lifetime. Before moving his family acrosss the world to ensure his kids had a safe home and future — building a new life here in Manitoba, he helped feed those defending his home country of Ukraine. Through it all, he has continued to work hard, remain dependable and look out for the people around him.

His impact on our food program and events has been enormous. His skill, creativity and willingness to take on difficult ideas have helped us create things at Lakehouse and Danceland that we could not have done without him. As his role has grown, so has his influence on the work we do and the experiences we create.

But what matters most is who Lurii is. He shows up, works hard and helps find a way forward when things get difficult. He brings honesty, integrity and care to everything he does. He is a friend, a mentor and a central part of the Lakehouse kitchen. We trust him, and that means a great deal to us.

He is also a devoted husband to Olena and a loving father to their three sons. The care he gives his family says so much about the kind of person he is.

Lurii has become an important part of our lives and an essential part of Lakehouse and Danceland. We’re grateful he found his way to Manitoba, inspired to work alongside him and proud that his story is being told.

We’ll be closing at 3:00 PM today so we can take our amazing crew out for a well-deserved staff party! 🥂☀️ We will reopen for regular service tomorrow morning at 9am!

Our team works incredibly hard all season long, and we truly couldn’t do what we do without them. Today is our chance to celebrate them, have some fun, and say a big THANK YOU for everything they do. 🤍
