🚨🌱 RARE PLANT ALERT! 🌱🚨
This beautiful find is a Striped Coralroot [Corallorhiza striata], a unique native orchid that lacks chlorophyll. Because it can't photosynthesize, it gets all its nutrients from a symbiotic relationship with underground fungi.
You’ll typically find them tucked away in the shaded understory of coniferous, mixed, and aspen woodlands. In Saskatchewan, seeing one is a special treat—they are considered a rare plant and carry an S3 (Vulnerable) conservation rank. This means there are relatively few known populations or occurrences in the province (typically fewer than 80), making them highly susceptible to habitat disturbances. Always a reminder to step carefully and leave nature as we find it! 🌸✨
