Driving just 3 hours south of the guest house, you can be in a completely different world.

One minute you are in the lush, green cloud forest and the next you are standing in front of a 19,000-foot volcano surrounded by barren landscape scattered with lichen decorated rocks and where wild horses roam free.

We drove up to the parking lot which sits at a little over 15,000 and we hiked another 700 feet up to the Refuge which you can see in the center of the photo. Doesn’t seem like it would be that hard, but we fought the wind, sleet, fog and lack of oxygen on the way up. After arriving back to the truck, Cotopaxi decided to give us a peek at her peak!

Spotted the elusive 𝐹𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑠 𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠 on the trail to the river today. Just kidding. My cat, Fluff decided to take the 30-minute hike with us, but he complained the whole time!

So excited to share one of my first videos with my new drone! I definitely need some practice, but I couldn’t wait to show you a view that photos can never quite do justice.

The famous 89 butterfly. When it's wings are closed you can clearly see the number which is meant to resemble an eye to ward off predators. The bright colors on it's open wings are even more stunning in person.

Just a girl on her horse taking fresh milk to town to sell. This photo is one of my all-time favorites because it captures so much of what I love about life here. The simplicity. The quietness. A slower pace of life. And, of course, the natural beauty that surrounds us every day.

I managed to capture this photo just in time because this magnificent pitahaya flower blooms for just one night.

It usually opens between 7 and 9 p.m., and its sweet fragrance attracts the nighttime pollinators such as bats. By sunrise, the flower has completed its mission and begins to wilt. Four months from now, it will have transformed into one of my favorite fruits.

I love that nature's resiliency transformed someone's trash into something beautiful.
