Look closely and you’ll notice that male and female lava lizards can look surprisingly different.

The males are often more brightly marked, while females have their own distinct patterns and coloring.

It’s one of those small details that’s easy to miss, until you start paying attention.

And in Galápagos, there’s always something worth looking a little closer at.

We’re proud to share that Montemar has been selected as a finalist for Premios Verdes 2026.

The recognition is for work that began long before the nomination: restoring a highland ecosystem that had been overtaken by invasive species and creating the conditions for native life to return.

Today, more than 200 giant tortoises pass through and stay on the property during migration seasons.

For us, that is the most meaningful measure of restoration — seeing a landscape become habitat again.

There is still much more to do, but we’re grateful to have this work recognized.

Sometimes, the best way to experience Galápagos is to slow down.
To spend longer watching one tortoise. To let breakfast take its time. To leave space in the day for whatever unfolds.
And when that is the journey you need, we make room for it.
But slowing down is not the goal for everyone. Some guests want full days, early starts, long explorations, and as much adventure as they can fit in.
We are ready for that too.
Because for us, less is more doesn’t mean doing less.
It means doing what feels right for you.

For us, tourism should create value beyond the people who come to visit.

Maybe it’s knowing where you like to sit in the morning.
Ordering another coffee without having to ask.
Children leaving their things exactly where they shouldn’t.
Calling someone from the team by name.

With only two villas, being small gives us something we value enormously: time.

Time to listen, adapt and get to know the people staying with us.
Because feeling at home has very little to do with how far away from home you are.

Drawing from his years of experience as a naturalist guide, Roberto now leads the design of Montemar’s experiences and helps train the guides who bring them to life.

His focus is not simply on what guests should see, but on how they experience it — when to slow down, what to notice, when to wait, and how to read the landscape beyond the obvious.

This iguana seems to understand something many of us forget.
Not every beautiful day needs a plan.
Galápagos can be extraordinary without filling every hour with somewhere to go, something to see or something to accomplish.
Sometimes the island’s best lesson is much simpler:
