👁️ Have you ever seen the Eye of Los Gigantes?

Known locally as El Ojo de Los Gigantes, this spectacular natural rock arch was shaped over time by erosion in Tenerife’s ancient volcanic landscape. Located high above Los Gigantes in Santiago del Teide, at around 640 metres, its opening frames the Atlantic Ocean and on clear days, La Gomera appears perfectly in the distance. A hidden Tenerife view worth remembering. 🌊

🌊 There’s more to Tenerife than beaches… and this place proves it.

In the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Plaza de España is one of those places that makes you stop for a moment.

The huge turquoise seawater lake reflects the sky and the city around it, creating an atmosphere that feels surprisingly calm for the centre of Tenerife’s capital.

But the most fascinating part is actually beneath your feet. 👀

Centuries ago, this was home to the Castillo de San Cristóbal, built in the 1570s to protect Santa Cruz from attacks from the sea. The fortress even played a role in defending the city during Admiral Nelson’s failed attack on Tenerife in 1797.

It was demolished in 1929, but parts of its original walls were rediscovered and can still be visited underneath the square today.

And that beautiful lake? It holds around 2.5 million litres of seawater, and its central geyser can send water up to 30 metres into the air. The modern square was redesigned by world-famous architects Herzog & de Meuron.

It’s one of those places where Tenerife surprises you: the ocean in front of you, the city around you, and more than 400 years of history beneath your feet. 💙
