🌧️ Three years ago today… we were celebrating the rain! 🇪🇸☔️

Facebook reminded us this morning that three years ago today we had some seriously heavy rain here in Spain — and, at the time, it was very welcome indeed!

Fast-forward three years and things couldn’t be more different. 😎☀️

We’ve had what feels like the perfect year weather-wise here at Los Chozones, with some excellent rainfall earlier in the year, leaving everything looking green and healthy. And now? Well… just look at the forecast! 🔥

☀️ And glorious sunshine forecast for pretty much the next 10 days!

September is shaping up beautifully — and we still have some availability. 🏡🚐

So, if you’re thinking about escaping the UK for some late-summer Spanish sunshine, get in touch with us as soon as possible. We may be able to accommodate you either in our guest house or on our motorhome pitches.

Context

We were recently blocked from European Touring Caravan, Campervan and Camping Friends () following a post about motorhome insurance and tour operators.

The post was based on research we’d done into things people should consider before arranging insurance or booking a tour. It was intended to help protect people travelling in motorhomes, so we felt it was entirely relevant. Yes, it was long (it had a lot of info) — we acknowledged that and made it clear that anyone who wasn’t interested could simply scroll past.

After the post was refused by admin, we were told we should instead respond individually to members with insurance questions. That seems rather impractical when Neil Westerby had told us the group has around 35,000 members. The whole point was to make useful information available to everyone.

We were then told that mentioning we were considering becoming a tour operator possibly next year amounted to advertising, although we weren’t offering or selling any tours. It was also to put context into why we we researching.

And this isn’t the first time.

After our wedding, some group members had actually been there. We shared a few photographs of our happy day and tagged those members. That was refused too, and we were told we shouldn’t post more than one photograph or tag. Seriously? None of the other motorhome groups we belong to had an issue with it.

On occasions, when we questioned the decisions, the response was effectively “if you don’t like it, there’s the door” — on this occasion from Neil Westerby, the owner and an administrator.

The latest response included the comment that people would “lose the will to live” reading our post, amongst other comments. That’s not blunt moderation; it’s rude and dismissive. And it certainly wasn’t said in jest.
Do all admins critique and advise their members how to write a post?

We run our own site and understand completely that administrators need rules. We belong to numerous motorhome groups and respect their individual rules too.

What we don’t accept is the attitude, inconsistency and the way members are spoken to when they simply ask why something has been refused.

We’re not looking for an argument. We’re simply saying that when choosing a group, don’t just look at the number of members — look at how those members are treated. Much like choosing a place to stay, I guess.

Apparently I’m a ‘persistent offender’ (harsh 😂) I think they mean I ask too many questions… as we’d never had a warning for anything!

🌴 A Little More Shade at Los Chozones 🌴

One of the biggest challenges we have at Los Chozones is trying to cater for everyone’s needs throughout the year.

In the winter, many of our motorhome and caravan guests prefer plenty of sunshine to keep their solar panels working efficiently. In the summer, however, a little extra shade is always appreciated!

We hope we’ve found a good balance.

We’ve recently planted four more palm trees alongside our top pitches, carefully positioning them to the north of each pitch. This still leaves plenty of room for awnings while providing some welcome shade during the hottest months.

The palms will take a little while to become fully established, but we were incredibly fortunate that our neighbours were redesigning their garden and very kindly gifted them to us rather than seeing them go to waste. A huge thank you to them! ❤️

After a long afternoon of digging, lifting and planting, they’re now in their new home. There are still a few finishing touches to do once they’ve settled, and the support stakes will need to remain for around a year while the roots establish.

We think they’ll add even more to the peaceful, garden atmosphere that makes Los Chozones such a relaxing place to stay.

We can’t wait to see them flourish over the coming months! 🌴☀️
