58 minutes doesn’t sound like much until you multiply it.

That’s what IGH’s global research on business travelers found, an average of 58 minutes of sleep lost per night while away from home, landing at just 5 hours and 17 minutes. Not one bad night from jet lag. The baseline, every single night, for the whole trip.

Here’s the part that’s easy to miss: it’s rarely the bed itself. It’s that the room is doing three jobs at once. It’s where you sleep, where you took that 9pm call, and where your laptop’s still open on the desk six feet from the pillow. Your brain never really gets the signal that the day is over.

On a two or three night trip, that’s a manageable deficit. On a three week stay, it compounds into something that shows up in how you think, not just how tired you feel.

This is one of the clearest arguments we’ve found for separating where you work from where you sleep, even when it’s technically the same address. a real bedroom. a real living room. A desk that isn’t part of the same six square meters as the bed.

Hotels are built for short stays, so the price reflects that. convenience fee baked into every night. But stay past two weeks and the model flips. You are not paying for turndown service anymore, you’re paying for a kitchen you’ll actually use, laundry you won’t queue for, and space that doesn’t shrink the longer you’re in it.

40% less than a hotel once you cross that point. Not a promo, just what happens when the stay is long enough for a real apartment to make financial sense instead of a luxury.

If you’re planning to be somewhere for a while, do the math before you book the hotel rate out of habit.

Warm light after dark isn’t just aesthetic,
it’s about 2700k versus the 5000k glare of an overhead office light, which is why one good desk lamp does more for a late work session than any ceiling fixture ever will.
