San Juan is coming soon. Ever wondered what is celebrated in Spain and how? We will give you a quick guide.
San Juan is celebrated the night from the 23rd to the 24th June to welcome summer. It combines fire rituals to burn away the old and renew energies, nighttime baths in the sea for purification, and lively street and beach parties until dawn.
Keypoints:
Bonfires: it is common to write your wishes on a paper and throw them in, or just jump over them.
Midnight bath: For purification, to draw away bad energies and to ask for a wish
Why we do this? We celebrate the longest day and shortest night of the year and the birth of San Juan Bautista.
