Hay un momento en que Gandía cambia de ritmo. 🍂

La orilla se recorre sin reloj, apetece caminar por el Marjal o por las rutas de la Safor, y la sobremesa se alarga alrededor de un arroz. Y al día siguiente, despertar con el mar al otro lado de la cortina. El mismo mar, sin ninguna prisa.

Gandía ya está de fiesta: hay música en las calles, la feria está abierta y los tambores del Tio de la P***a no paran. Y lo mejor llega del 2 al 5 de octubre. 🥁

Si vienes esos días en familia, estos son los planes que no te puedes perder: mirar hacia arriba el viernes a las 20:30 en la Plaza Mayor, seguir a las bandas por la calle, pasar por la feria (también por la mañana) y guardar una tarde para el teatro en el Serrano.

Aquí las tardes no se acaban, se estiran.

Empieza el viento y salen las cometas. Se llena el paseo. El sol baja por detrás de la montaña y, cuando quieres darte cuenta, ya es de noche, la arena sigue caliente y en la playa ha empezado la peli.

Y este sábado, además, el cielo se enciende sobre la Escollera.

Here the evenings don’t end, they stretch.

The wind picks up and the kites come out. The promenade fills. The sun drops behind the mountain and, before you notice, it’s dark, the sand is still warm and the film has started on the beach.

And this Saturday, the sky lights up over the breakwater.

Julio no cabe en un solo plan.
La playa despierta con yoga y se despide con cine en la arena. Los gigantes del Tío de la P***a recorren el paseo, la Virgen del Carmen sale al mar el día 16 y los restaurantes celebran el mes de la berenjena listada. Entre medias: cometas, paddle al amanecer, juegos en la orilla.
Y cuando no apetece nada de eso, también está bien. La terraza, la piscina, un libro. Julio en Gandía es todo eso a la vez.
¿Qué plan es el primero que vais a tachar de la lista?

July doesn’t fit in a single plan.
The beach wakes up with yoga and says goodnight with open-air cinema on the sand. The Tío de la P***a giants parade along the promenade, the Virgen del Carmen sails out to sea on the 16th, and local restaurants celebrate Gandía’s striped aubergine month. In between: kites, sunrise paddle, games by the shore.
And when none of that appeals, that’s fine too. The terrace, the pool, a good book. July in Gandía is all of it at once.

Hay planes que no necesitan itinerario.
Solo saber lo que no puede faltar.
Para Javier empieza pronto — tabla bajo el brazo, playa casi vacía, el mar para él solo. Después, pasear sin prisa, descubrir el paisaje de dunas, dejarse llevar por la orilla.
La comida en casa. Larga. Con sobremesa en la terraza mirando el horizonte. Eso que en la ciudad nunca pasa.
Por la noche, una de las mesas que merece Gandía. Y al volver, el sofá que estaba esperando.
Porque para eso también se viene. A no hacer nada, pero bien.

For Javier it starts early — board under his arm, beach nearly empty, the sea all to himself. Then a slow walk, discovering the dune landscape, letting the shoreline lead the way.
Lunch at home. Long. With after-lunch conversation on the terrace watching the horizon. The kind that never happens back in the city.
At night, one of Gandía’s tables worth the evening. And back home, the sofa that was waiting.
