Charlie grew up here, and the guests were his first lesson in hospitality. As a small boy, he’d make his way round to them, pull up a chair, and settle in — as if the whole place were his and everyone in it a friend.

That, he reckons, is where he learned it. Not as a job, but as a way of being with people. It’s why you’ll find him out front talking to guests as much as in the kitchen cooking for them.

We’re nearly at the end of the season, and September is almost fully booked! We have just one stay left in the Casita from 12 September, and then that’s September done.

There’s a little more availability in October, with a few weeks still free across Olivera, the Casita and Carrasca before we close for the year.

It’s such a lovely time to come — warm days, quieter roads, long dinners and a much slower pace in the valley.

Full circle. Chloe spent childhood summers here, and this year came back to help look after everyone else’s.

She grew up arriving the way our guests’ families do — and this summer she was the one making sure they felt at home. Thank you for a lovely one, Chloe.

Fiesta season’s over for another year, but we couldn’t resist filming these two talking about it.

More than twenty years in, the fiestas are just part of the calendar for us now — and it’s been something special, watching Charlie come back and slot straight back into it all.

Your toddler does not need a full schedule of entertainment. They spend most of their days discovering things we stopped noticing years ago. A chicken. A puddle. Picking something from a tree. Another small person to follow around all afternoon.

So we’ve never felt the need to fill every hour here. There’s space to potter. Animals to visit. A pool to splash in. Long lunches shared with new friends.

And when the little ones are happy just being part of things, the grown-ups can relax a little too. That’s really the idea behind Caserío.

Sarah and Charlie showed us round the kitchen garden this week. The vegetables end up in the outdoor kitchen, but that’s not the only reason children love it here.

They come to dig, to pull things out of the ground, to see what’s hiding under the leaves. This week it was caterpillars. Every visit there’s something new growing, and something new living in it.

Some people just make a place feel easy. Louise is one of them and we are incredibly lucky to have her.

She’s often the first face families meet when they arrive, and by breakfast the next morning the children are already looking for her. Ask her favourite part of the job and she’ll tell you the setting — and the pigs. 🐖
