First of all, I would like to wish you all a peaceful All Saints’ Day.

Here in Spain and the Canary Islands, 1 November is traditionally a day for remembering family members and loved ones who are no longer with us.

Many families visit cemeteries, clean and decorate graves with flowers and attend Mass. It is a quiet and meaningful day for many people.

Today’s local programme includes:

🌧️ A RAINY START TO SUNDAY

I woke at around 02:00 or 02:30 to the sound of rain.

It is not something we hear very often in Puerto de Mogán, but I find the sound incredibly peaceful and relaxing. It appears to have rained on and off for around two hours during the night.

Today is expected to remain very cloudy, with showers possible, especially later in the day. However, the different forecasts do not completely agree about the timing or amount of rain.

Gran Canaria is under an official rain pre-alert today. This does not mean that it will rain heavily everywhere or continuously, but showers may be irregular and locally strong.

🌦️ A SMALL LOCAL WEATHER NOTE

Puerto de Mogán is one of the driest and most sheltered parts of Gran Canaria. The mountains often protect the south-west coast from the wetter air arriving elsewhere on the island.

This means it may remain dry here while northern, central or mountainous areas experience much heavier rain. However, local showers are still possible, so please continue checking conditions before travelling.

☕ WHAT CAN YOU DO ON A RAINY DAY?

If I were on holiday, I might stay in bed a little longer, make a cup of tea and enjoy a good book. You are on holiday, after all, and sometimes slowing down is exactly what we need.

If you would rather go exploring, here are a few ideas:

🐠 POEMA DEL MAR

Take bus 91 to its final stop at Santa Catalina in Las Palmas. From there, it is approximately an eight-minute walk to Poema del Mar aquarium.

Bus 91 follows the Sunday and public-holiday timetable today, normally leaving Puerto de Mogán at 15 minutes past each hour from 07:15 until 22:15.

Poema del Mar is open from 09:30 until 17:30. Buying tickets online before travelling could save time, particularly as it may be popular on a rainy Sunday - sold by Sisko Schoedel / Olli Mar Excursions Gran Canaria

🛍️ MOGAN MALL

Another possibility is shopping at Mogan Mall in Puerto Rico.

Shopping hours: 10:00–22:00
Restaurants: 12:00–00:00

Bus 91 connects Puerto de Mogán and Puerto Rico.

Grey skies give the harbour and old village a completely different atmosphere.

You could photograph the flower-filled lanes, harbour and lighthouse today, then return when the blue sky comes back and photograph the same places again. The contrast could be beautiful.

🌄 EL MIRADOR

El Mirador offers one of the best views over Puerto de Mogán.

The route begins near the post office and includes 257 steps through the old village.

However, please only attempt it if the rain has stopped and the steps are not slippery. Do not climb during heavy rain or thunder.

I have not seen any official report of major disorder, looting or vandalism at Mogan Mall overnight.

There was a significant preventative police presence following the anonymous gathering circulated on social media.

I will share an update if the authorities publish a formal summary, but please be careful about repeating claims that have not been officially confirmed.

It felt extremely quiet in Puerto de Mogán yesterday. I walked along both sides of the beach promenade, through the harbour and towards the lighthouse between approximately 12:00 and 15:00, and there were surprisingly few people around.

Saturday is a major changeover day, with many visitors leaving and others arriving, so I expect the village will feel busier again soon.

💜 A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM ME ABOUT CLUB LOVE MOGAN

After 16 years of sharing my love for Puerto de Mogán, I would like to tell you a little more about why I decided to create CLUB LOVE MOGAN.

I am aware that CLUB LOVE MOGAN has attracted some criticism and questions, including from within our local business community. I respect everyone's right to have an opinion, and I welcome genuine questions. However, I also believe it is important that people understand what the Club actually offers, how it works and what has not changed.

For all these years, I have shared local information, recommendations and practical advice, helping visitors discover and enjoy our beautiful little village without charging for that help.

Today, our community has grown to more than 130,000 followers across social media, something I am incredibly grateful for.

Some of you have been visiting Puerto de Mogán for many years. You know the restaurants, the people and all your favourite places. You may not need any additional guidance, and that’s absolutely fine!

But every year, thousands of people arrive for the first time. They have questions about restaurants, excursions, transport, activities and all the little things that make a holiday easier and more enjoyable.

And I love helping them.

💜 WHY CLUB LOVE MOGAN?

I wanted to create something that brings visitors and local businesses closer together, while offering additional value to those who would like it.

CLUB LOVE MOGAN is an entirely optional annual membership.

For €29 a year for the first 500 memberships, two adults and their children or grandchildren under 12 can enjoy exclusive benefits from participating local businesses, digital guides and Club activities.

The regular annual membership price will be €49.

Our Official Partners participate voluntarily, pay nothing to join and choose the benefits they offer.

Everything is now ready for tomorrow’s launch!

Today, Lenka and I will visit almost 30 participating businesses to deliver their final information and Official Partner window stickers.

We will also take photographs and videos so that we can introduce everyone.

Only one invited business declined, which honestly makes me feel very proud of what we have created together.

🖤 SPAIN REMAINS IN OFFICIAL MOURNING

Spain’s three-day period of official mourning following the devastating railway accident in Urda, Toledo, continues until midnight tonight.

Our thoughts remain with everyone who has lost somebody, those who were injured and all the families whose lives have been changed by this terrible tragedy.

Several local celebrations have been cancelled as a mark of respect.

CANCELLED:

• The municipal Halloween activities in Mogán Pueblo
• The House of Horrors, costume competition and family workshops
• The Noche de Finaos celebration and La Luna entre Cardones performance in Mogán Pueblo
• The Finaos celebration in Arguineguín
• The Halloween parade planned at Mogan Mall in Puerto Rico tonight

Private bars, restaurants and other venues may make their own decisions, so please check directly before travelling to an event.

The religious services for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day remain scheduled.

⚠️ PREVENTATIVE SECURITY AT MOGAN MALL

Mogán Council has requested an increased police presence around Mogan Mall today following an anonymous call for people to gather there that was circulated on social media.

This is separate from the official Halloween parade, which has been cancelled.

Similar messages elsewhere in Spain have included references to people wearing dark clothing and covering their faces. However, the authorities have not confirmed who is behind the Mogán message, how many people may attend or whether any gathering will take place at all.

There have been no related incidents at Mogan Mall. The additional police presence is a preventative measure.

If you are visiting today, remain aware of your surroundings, avoid any crowd that begins to form and follow instructions from the police or security staff.

Please stay calm and do not circulate unverified rumours.

🌰 HALLOWEEN AND FINAOS IN THE CANARY ISLANDS

Halloween in Gran Canaria is now a mixture of modern costumes and parties and the much older Canarian tradition of Noche de los Finaos.

Finaos is not originally a Halloween celebration.

Traditionally, families and neighbours gathered on the evening of 31 October to remember relatives who had died. Older family members shared stories about their ancestors while everyone enjoyed roasted chestnuts, walnuts, figs, traditional drinks and local music.

Families also visited cemeteries to clean and decorate graves with flowers and candles.

Although today’s public celebrations have been cancelled, the tradition of quietly remembering loved ones remains important to many Canarian families.

🏥 PUBLIC HEALTHCARE IN PLAYA DE MOGÁN

If you become ill and require public medical assistance, the official facility is the Consultorio Local de Playa de Mogán.

📍 Calle La Mina 4, at the corner of Calle La Noria
It is only a short walk from SPAR and the bus station.

One thing you may need is patience, but please remember to bring the correct documents:

• Your passport or official identification
• A valid UK GHIC or EHIC
• For Scandinavian and other eligible European visitors, your European Health Insurance Card, often known as the blue card

These cards provide access to medically necessary state healthcare during a temporary stay. They are not valid for private healthcare and do not replace comprehensive travel insurance.

At weekends and on public holidays, the centre’s continuous-care service is available around the clock.

For a serious or life-threatening emergency, call 112.

🍴 RESTAURANT CHANGES AND NEW MENUS

I know there are many rumours circulating about ownership changes involving restaurants in Puerto de Mogán.

I prefer not to present unconfirmed ownership claims as facts.

What I can responsibly share from the information given to me is:

• La Linterna and Monte y Mar are currently being renovated
• I understand that neither will reopen as an Asian restaurant
• Mogán Mar is expected to continue as it is today
• A new Asian restaurant is planned for the new building in the end of bar street, with space for private parties on the upper floor

I will share accurate details closer to the openings when everything is officially confirmed.

Several restaurants are also introducing new menus around the beginning of November, including:

• Belin
• Asia House

There may be others. If you know of a restaurant introducing a new menu, please leave a comment or send me a message so I can check and share the information.

It could be a good reason to revisit an old favourite and try something new.

🚔 LOCAL NEWS IN BRIEF

• Mogán Local Police arrested a man following a suspected sale of co***ne at the Europa Shopping Centre in Puerto Rico. The operation formed part of ongoing plain-clothes patrols in the area.

• Additional police resources have been requested around Mogan Mall today following information about a gathering circulated on social media. This is a preventative safety measure during a busy holiday weekend. Please follow any directions given by police or security staff.

• Mogán Town Council has rejected a proposed increase in its 2027 contribution to the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium. The proposed municipal contribution would rise by 40.8%. The vote was postponed because there was no quorum.

Early observations showed good visibility of at least 10 kilometres, light north-westerly winds and low broken cloud.

For passengers travelling to the UK or another destination outside the Schengen Area:

• Passport control is after security in Area D
• Families travelling with children under 12 should use manual passport control
• Do not leave passport control until the last minute

🇪🇸 SPAIN IN MOURNING | TRAGIC TRAIN ACCIDENT, HALLOWEEN CANCELLATIONS & LOCAL NEWS

Good morning, everyone. 🌺

Today, I would like to begin our morning update a little differently.

Yesterday, Wednesday 28 October, Spain was struck by a devastating tragedy when two high-speed trains collided near Urda, in the province of Toledo, on the Spanish mainland.

According to the reports available, at least 68 people have lost their lives, more than 100 have been injured, and over 500 passengers were travelling on the two trains.

It is heartbreaking to think of the families who received the worst possible news yesterday, those waiting for information about their loved ones, and the people whose lives have been changed forever.

My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go to everyone affected by this terrible accident.

My thoughts are also with the emergency services, medical teams and everyone working tirelessly to help those involved.

Spain has declared three days of official national mourning, from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October.

During this period, Spanish flags on public buildings will fly at half-mast, and many public celebrations have been cancelled or postponed as a mark of respect.

Although we are here in the sunshine of Gran Canaria, we are part of Spain, and I believe it is important that we stand together in moments like this. 🖤

🎃 HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS CANCELLED IN MOGÁN

For those of you visiting Puerto de Mogán and the surrounding areas, there are some important changes to this weekend’s planned activities.

📍 MOGÁN MUNICIPALITY

Mogán Council has cancelled its organised Halloween and traditional Los Finaos festivities scheduled for Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October.

These include the planned Halloween activities in Mogán and the traditional Los Finaos celebrations in Arguineguín.

Los Finaos is a beautiful Canarian tradition when families remember loved ones who have passed away, often gathering together to share stories, roasted chestnuts and traditional food.

Religious services for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day are expected to continue.

📍 MOGÁN MALL | PUERTO RICO

Mogán Mall has announced that its Spooky Halloween Parade, scheduled for Saturday 31 October, has been cancelled.

However, according to the shopping centre’s own announcement, the other activities remain scheduled:

🎃 Friday 30 October: Trick or Treat.

⛲ Halloween Fountain Show: Still planned to go ahead.

Please note that the cancellation concerns the parade, not the closure of the shopping centre itself.

I recommend checking directly with the organisers before travelling to any Halloween event, as arrangements may change.

🇪🇸 WHAT DOES THREE DAYS OF NATIONAL MOURNING MEAN?

Some visitors may wonder whether shops, restaurants and other businesses will close.

Official national mourning is primarily a gesture of respect and remembrance.

Spanish flags are lowered to half-mast on public buildings, and public institutions and local authorities may cancel celebrations and entertainment.

However, there is no general requirement for restaurants, cafés, shops, hotels or tourist businesses to close.

Here in Puerto de Mogán, visitors can still enjoy the beach, marina, restaurants and our beautiful surroundings.

Individual businesses and event organisers may, of course, make their own decisions about planned entertainment.

🚆 TRAIN ACCIDENT | TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS ON THE MAINLAND

The accident has caused major disruption to rail services between Madrid and Andalusia, including routes serving Córdoba, Seville and Málaga.

Passengers travelling on the Spanish mainland should check directly with Renfe, Iryo, Ouigo or their booking provider for updated departure information and alternative arrangements.

Rail services may remain disrupted while investigations and recovery work continue.

If you have friends or family travelling through mainland Spain, please make sure they are aware of the situation.

⚠️ POSSIBLE GENERAL STRIKE | WEDNESDAY 11 NOVEMBER

I also want to thank one of our followers who contacted me yesterday about reports of a nationwide general strike planned for Wednesday 11 November.

I have been so busy lately with work and preparations for Club Love Mogán that I had not yet had the opportunity to look into it properly, so I really appreciate people sharing information that may be useful to our community.

The reported action concerns Spain’s housing crisis, rising living costs and demands for improved wages and housing conditions.

If the strike proceeds and affects transport services, travellers could potentially experience disruption to trains, buses, airports and other public services.

However, the precise impact on Gran Canaria, including flights through Gran Canaria Airport, has not yet been established.

My advice: If you are travelling on 11 November, keep an eye on official announcements from your airline, airport and transport operator. Please do not assume your flight is cancelled unless your airline confirms it.

I will share further information when reliable details become available.

🌱 POSITIVE LOCAL NEWS | COMMUNITY COMPOSTING IN VENEGUERA

Among the difficult news, I also wanted to share a positive local initiative.

Mogán Council has launched a pilot community composting project in Veneguera, helping residents turn organic household waste into natural compost.

The project has received €10,000 in funding from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.

A community composting area has already been installed in Calle Damián Suárez González, close to the local school and community centre.

The initiative involves cooperation with La Abeja Negra, the Cardonal de Veneguera neighbourhood association and the local school.

Initially, a small group of families will participate, allowing the organisers to evaluate how the system works before potentially expanding it.

I think initiatives like this are a lovely example of how small communities can work together to protect our environment and make better use of our resources. 🌱

🌺 A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM PUERTO DE MOGÁN

Normally, my morning updates are filled with sunshine, beautiful photographs, holiday recommendations and all the lovely things happening around us.

And I know that many of you are here enjoying a well-deserved holiday.

Please continue to enjoy your time in Puerto de Mogán.

But today, I think it is important to acknowledge the sadness being felt across Spain.

For the families affected by yesterday’s tragedy, life will never be quite the same again.

The cancellation of public celebrations is a gesture of respect and solidarity, and I hope everyone will understand the decisions made by the local authorities and organisers.

Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is show compassion, kindness and consideration for others.

To everyone who has lost someone, to those who are injured, and to the families still waiting for answers, my thoughts are with you.

And to all of you here in Puerto de Mogán, whether you live here or are visiting, I wish you a peaceful Thursday.
