🌼 Buenos Días / Good Morning

📮 EXTREME UV • AIRPORT, WEATHER & LOCAL UPDATE
📆 Wednesday 24th June 2026

Dear followers 🌺

Did you enjoy the San Juan celebrations last night?

I certainly did. I stayed on the beach from 7:30 in the morning until after the fireworks and loved every minute of the atmosphere. There is something very special about seeing the whole community come together to celebrate by the sea.

This morning we even woke up to a brief shower of rain, which is quite unusual for this time of year.

However, don’t let that fool you.

☀️ Fair weather is expected for most of the day and today’s UV Index is forecast to reach an EXTREME 12.

Please be generous with your sunscreen.

💡 LOCAL TIP FOR TODAY

🌄 El Mirador Viewpoint

If you only do one thing beyond the beach and harbour, make it this.

El Mirador viewpoint offers what many consider the best view in all of Puerto de Mogán.

The walk starts near the post office and follow the signs all the way to the top.

There are 257 steps and while it is a steady climb, it is perfectly manageable at your own pace.

💡 What to know
✔ Follow the signs from the post office
✔ Take your time, especially in the heat
✔ Bring water

📷 What to bring

A camera or your phone.

The views over the harbour, beach and mountains are truly worth it.

At the top, you will be rewarded with one of the most stunning and memorable views in the whole area.

🗞️Local news from Ayuntamiento Mogan:

🏳️ VIRGEN DEL CARMEN TO BECOME PERPETUAL MAYOR OF MOGÁN

One of the most significant decisions from yesterday’s Mogán council meeting was the unanimous approval to name the Virgen del Carmen of Playa de Mogán and Arguineguín as the perpetual and honorary mayor of the municipality.

The decision recognises the deep cultural, historical and emotional connection that the Virgen del Carmen has with local residents, particularly families connected to the sea and fishing traditions.

During the July celebrations, both statues will symbolically receive the Mayor’s Staff of Office.

🏆 MOGÁN RECEIVES NATIONAL INNOVATION AWARD

Mogán has officially been recognised by Spain’s Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities as a:

🏅 “City of Science and Innovation”

The award recognises projects such as:

✔ Sustainable mobility improvements
✔ Environmental restoration projects
✔ Energy-efficient public lighting
✔ Digitalisation initiatives
✔ Water management improvements

Mogán now joins Spain’s national network of innovative municipalities.

Gran Canaria Airport is operating normally.

✔ Visibility 10 km or more
✔ Light cloud around 2,500-3,000 ft
✔ No significant operational issues reported

💡 Departure Tip

Passport control is located in Area D after security checks.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families travelling with children under 12 should use the manual passport control lanes on both arrival and departure.

🔥 SAN JUAN 2026 🔥

Today is one of the most magical nights of the year in Spain.

Personally, I think the place to be tonight is the beach here in Mogan.

Bring some food, drinks, family and friends, arrive early and enjoy the atmosphere. The beaches become very busy throughout the day and remain lively until the early hours of the morning.

And whatever you do, don’t leave before the fireworks 🎆

One of the most popular traditions is to write down worries, fears or something you would like to leave behind on a piece of paper and throw it into the bonfire.

🔥 The giant bonfire symbolises purification, renewal and new beginnings.

Another famous tradition takes place at midnight.

🌊 Many people walk backwards into the ocean and take three dips in the water.

The tradition says:
✔ Leave bad luck behind
✔ Let go of negative energy
✔ Welcome health, happiness and good fortune

Many people make a silent wish with each dip.

Whether you believe in the tradition or not, it is a beautiful moment shared by thousands of people across Gran Canaria.

📖 WHY DO WE CELEBRATE SAN JUAN?

San Juan is Saint John the Baptist.

His feast day is celebrated on 24th June and became linked with ancient summer solstice celebrations.

Over the centuries Christian traditions and ancient midsummer customs blended together, creating what is now one of Spain’s most loved celebrations.

Across beaches throughout Gran Canaria thousands gather around bonfires, music, dancing and midnight swims.

⚖️ Mogán goes to court to claim the concession for Puerto de Mogán Marina.

The Mogán Town Council has taken Puertos Canarios to court over the future management of Puerto de Mogán Marina.

The council argues that the original concession was granted to the municipality in 1981 and that management should return to local control when the current concession period ends.

An application for an exceptional 25-year extension will also be presented at the next council meeting.

This is an important issue because Puerto de Mogán is one of the most valuable and profitable marinas in the Canary Islands.

📮 AIRPORT, WEATHER & LOCAL UPDATE
📆 Monday 22nd June 2026

Dear followers 🌺

I hope you are all having a lovely start to the week wherever you are.

Yesterday was spent enjoying family time by the pool at Cordial Mogán Valle before ending the day with dinner and live music at Rancho Tauro Grill. It was wonderful to see so many visitors and making the most of these long summer evenings.

Today looks set to be another beautiful day in Puerto de Mogán with sunshine, calm seas, excellent air quality and perfect conditions for exploring, swimming or simply relaxing by the water.

☀️ THE LONGEST DAYS OF THE YEAR

Yesterday marked the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.

Here in Gran Canaria we are fortunate to enjoy almost 14 hours of daylight at this time of year.

🌅 Sunrise: 07:07
🌇 Sunset: 21:02

Long evenings, warm temperatures and outdoor dining make this one of the most enjoyable times of year to visit the island.

🔥 READY FOR SAN JUAN

Tomorrow evening Puerto de Mogán celebrates one of the most magical nights of the year.

The celebration of San Juan combines Christian traditions with much older midsummer customs linked to the summer solstice.

Across Spain and the Canary Islands people gather around bonfires, enjoy music and celebrations.

🚙 RENTAL CAR RECOMMENDATIONS

This is one of the questions I receive daily.

Companies I regularly recommend:
✔ Cicar
✔ Autoreisen
✔ TopCar

I always recommend full insurance for a more relaxed holiday experience.

Personally, when I rent a car on Gran Canaria, I usually choose Cicar because:
✔ No deposit when paying by card
✔ Full insurance included
✔ Second driver included free of charge
✔ Collection and delivery available at Mogán Mall or your hotel without extra cost
✔ Full / Full petrol policy
✔Free children seats
✔unlimited km

That said, if you are staying mainly in Puerto de Mogán, you may find that you do not need a car at all.

Happy Sunday from beautiful Puerto de Mogán ☀️

Another lovely day is ahead of us. The sea remains calm, the air is fresh and comfortable, and after the usual early morning cloud, we can expect plenty of sunshine as the day progresses.

Yesterday all of my family arrived safely, and what a wonderful evening we had. We were a group of 17 and enjoyed our first family dinner together at Restaurant N-44.

Vidar and his team delivered as always. Fast, friendly service despite such a large group, and every starter and main course arrived perfectly. A lovely evening with excellent food and a very welcoming atmosphere.

Highly recommended if you are looking for somewhere special to dine during your stay 🌺

✨ “HIDDEN” GEMS AROUND PUERTO DE MOGÁN

Most visitors know the marina, the beach and the famous blue bridges.

But Puerto de Mogán has many quieter corners that are often overlooked.

🌊 Playa Chica
A tiny beach beside the harbour with crystal-clear water and excellent snorkelling opportunities.

⚓ The Harbour Breakwater
Walk all the way to the end of the harbour wall for beautiful views across the Atlantic.

🌅 Sunset Place
An informal viewpoint where locals and visitors gather to watch the sunset. On exceptionally clear days you may even see Mount Teide on Tenerife.

🚨 El Faro
The lighthouse at the end of the marina. A wonderful place for a drink while watching the sun disappear into the ocean.

⛰ El Mirador
Climb the 257 steps above the village and enjoy one of the best views in Puerto de Mogán.

🌴 Viveros Mogán
A peaceful walk inland takes you to one of Gran Canaria’s largest plant nurseries.

🦀 Sally Lightfoot Crabs
Look closely around the harbour rocks and you may spot these colourful little crabs darting between the stones.

🐟 Feed the Fish
Take a few crumbs of bread to the first blue bridge and watch dozens of fish gather below.

🧭 Today’s Challenge

Start at La Placita and see if you can find your way back to the post office using only the narrow alleys.

No map.

No main streets.

Just wander.

You might discover your own hidden gem.
