Welcome to our sun-drenched estate nestled in a sought-after area of fertile rolling hillsides between the traditional white-washed towns of Alhaurin el Grande and Coin. The newly-renovated, stylish Miralmonte restaurant, including covered outdoor seating, is a pleasant 20-minute walk away. The Andalucian Rescue Centre for Horses (ARCH), featured-on-TV, is just a short 10-minute walk away. “Alhaurin”, a name given by the Moors, means “God´s garden”, the area being fertile and with a pleasant winter climate. There are abundant fresh fruit and vegetables grown and sold locally and a mix of traditional Spanish people/culture and a large, established, international community. You can enjoy easy access, within 35 minutes, to the golden beaches of the Costa-del-Sol at Marbella, Fuengirola, Mijas and Malaga. The world-renown El Caminito del Rey with its spectacular rope walkways is 45 minutes away (prior booking essential) and day trips are possible to Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Ronda. Local beauty spot, Barranco Blanco, offers picturesque walking. We offer two options in our privileged, peaceful rural location. Both are light and airy, newly renovated to a high standard, and enjoy views over the whitewashed town of Alhaurin el Grande set against the Sierra Mijas mountains. They offer access to our 4 acre estate with diverse plant-life, nature trails, friendly animals, and many places to sit quietly and soak in the surrounding beauty. GARDEN APARTMENT – with two ensuite double bedrooms, a lounge/dining area and fully equipped open-plan kitchen, private covered terrace with armchairs, al fresco dining and adjacent gas barbecue. The master bedroom has a king-size double bed and french doors onto the terrace. The second bedroom is built into the hillside with a window-well, making it ideal for cooler summer/warmer winter nights. It has a super king-size/two single beds. The apartment and terrace are all on one level, with three steps from the adjacent car parking space. STUDIO VIEWS APARTMENT – for the solo traveller, enjoys an ensuite bedroom with kitchenette and an elevated outdoor terrace with panoramic views. The private terrace has a large, modern gas barbecue, quality outdoor dining and lounge furniture, granite worktop with sink and washing machine.

🌿 Our incredible oasis at Cortijo Fruitful Hills just keeps getting lusher and more alive! 💚

It's the end of October, and here I am enjoying a beautiful warm morning doing some garden maintenance in shorts, singlet and flip-flops. One of the things I love about Andalucía is that it feels as though we get two springs every year!

As well as our extensive trips to the garden centre, nature lends a helping hand. Succulents, including aloe vera, pop up all over the gravelled areas, and I love lifting them and finding new homes for them around the grounds. It's amazing how many happily take root and flourish!

Another little way our peaceful oasis keeps becoming greener, more abundant and full of life. 🌱☀️

🌧️ RAIN at Cortijo Fruitful Hills!

We are delighted. After a long, hot and exceptionally dry Andalusian summer, the rain finally arrived mid-morning today — and very welcome it is.

Málaga province has a Mediterranean climate, with much of the year’s rainfall concentrated into a relatively short autumn and winter season. That makes it especially valuable to retain as much of that rainfall on the land as possible.

Much of the work we’ve done at Cortijo Fruitful Hills has followed permaculture principles, helping the land absorb and hold water so that relatively little runs off the property. That matters not only for the water itself, but also because heavy runoff can carry away valuable topsoil, organic matter and nutrients with it. Keeping the rain where it falls helps preserve both the moisture and the fertility of the land.

It is always impressive to see how quickly the property responds. Within a surprisingly short time after good rain, everything becomes even more vibrant and green.

A big thank you to Andrew Allington, who has been out in his rain gear this morning - checking the property and buildings, and so continuing to make sure that our guests and residents here at CFH are well looked after whatever the weather.

And I have, of course, made an equally vital contribution by dashing outside and taking a few photographs, before dashing back inside my warm and cosy casita. 😁☔
