I (Laura) have just returned from several wonderful months in Asia to this!...

What growth, everything has exploded! It's both a feast on the eyes, on the nose and soon in the mouth! 😂

Grapes, almonds, olives, nectarines...and so much colour!

For those still sitting on the fence about a residency this year, if this helps...

Almonds will be harvested in August, the same with the grapes, olives probably in late October and the nectarines, well you're probably going to miss that one! Although, there will also be pomegranates and walnuts late September time!

We're excited to introduce our latest resident artist...

Eddy Wang, US

Living between Toronto and Philadelphia, Eddy Wang is a filmmaker and musician who works across and between mediums. He is a PhD Candidate at the University of Pennsylvania and is part of the Toronto Experimental Translation Collective, where he does much writing and the occasional performance. He comes to the stream of language as a translator, putting words into melody and image. His work often explores the textures of non-belonging, melancholia, and hybridity. Presently, he is interested in the question of forgetting, particularly in its everyday manifestations in image cultures. What is forgetting? How do we forget? Who forgets? These are questions he explores in both his academic and creative work.

This year, his band Ira Dot released their debut album In Blue Time, which is an ode to all things blue: the shade of melancholy, of ocean water, of the body’s maze of capillaries. We recently caught up with a resident artist from 2025, to find out what she's been up to since returning to London...

"Since being at the Cortijo El Moro Residency, I have continued to cultivate the pause that it afforded me, and opportunity to rethink some areas in my practice and approach to making that were no longer serving me.

I have set up my studio elsewhere, and been working on some further drawing, continuing on from pieces made during the residency.

I have also been exploring poetry, and am developing a performance piece that I hope to be able to present in the near future.

I exhibited a few works, some of which I made during the residency, in a group show in Camden, London, and performed a poem written in connection to these works in an, 'In Conversation...' event, as part of that show.

Most recently, I have had work selected for another exhibition in the coming months.

I really loved my time at Cortijo El Moro, and the balance that it helped me to find. It really was a magical space, and I carry that positivity forward for my next chapter."

2025 has been a fantastic year for Cortijo el Moro...thank you to you all for supporting us in our first year! 💚✨

We had a dream, and an inkling that it was a good one, and decided to JUMP! Wowee, are we glad we did!

Our first season wasn't just fully booked, we were over subscribed! We appreciate we couldn't have done this without you, so, thank you, for every shared post, every like and follow, and of course to each and every artist, writer, creative, who also took a leap of faith and came to stay with us at the beginning of our journey.

As the calendar flips over to 2026, we wish you happiness, health and the space to reach your creative goals with abundance. Happy New Year! 🎊🎇🍾🎉
