Cortijo los L

obos is an exclusive holiday retreat with horse riding on site, plus heated pool, set in the beautiful olive groves and pine clad national park area of Andalucia, Southern Spain, just 40 minutes from Granada and Malaga airports. Our breathtaking mountain views and spectacular rural location offers our holiday guests a truly memorable and relaxing holiday. Our much loved herd of horses started as a few horses for our own family to ride, but, over the years our herd has grown, as we have felt unable to resist rescuing horses, when we hear of a sad story. Consequently we are always on the look out for ways to raise money to care for our herd of 13, and our holidays help towards this, so please book a holiday with us, you won't regret it :) We train all our horses using positive reinforcement, especially beneficial for our abused, nervous rescue horses who sometimes come to us never having known kindness before. It is so satisfying to turn a sad, scared horse into a trusting companion

I love the way the horses all look at me when I go down to feed ❤️. Poor Lucy has a new fly hood but despite buying the smallest Shetland pony size it's still too big so I'm going to have to get the sewing machine out. I finished painting the stables this morning and accidentally painted a baby bird's beak as it popped out just as I was brushing, I didn't even know there were birds in the hole! Luckily it seemed to be ok. It was quite sad painting over some of the names of our old horses, now long gone in what was our original tack room. There was a huge Locust on the fence post, hopefully we don't get a plague 🤣. Naughty grey hen looked and sounded like she was planning to lay eggs in the new hay stack. Clive climbed up to investigate later but couldn't find any so hopefully it was a false alarm. Matilda helped Grandad with some sweeping then it was pool time, joined by Bella. She later found more shade under the coffee table and Olive found a nice spot in the El granero courtyard window. There's been lots of family pool time, enjoying our holiday at home, the pool is looking so beautiful and the whirlpool bath is ready for the retreat next week. You can see our courtyard grape vine from the pool now, it's so big. Today we harvested our first figs, lots more to come 😋. Lily had to go to her Nerja house this morning - the beach was packed even at 9am as people had been celebrating San Juan, the patron saint of fishing, and families often spend the night on the beach.

Happy summer solstice ❤️😍

There are horses at the bottom of our garden, but sometimes they like to hide 🥰

Yippee! We are now enjoying a holiday at home for a whole 7 days! (Any friends or family fancy popping on a plane to join us?) Our guests all left this morning and the next guests arrive next Thursday meaning we have a completely guest free week, something that never happens, there's usually staggered changeovers. When I realised it was the case I decided to block the week for last minute bookings so that we could enjoy our own place for a change 🥰. Grandad even came to the pool this afternoon which pleased the girls who took great delight in pushing him in. Bella joined us, sleeping in the pool shower and Lucky took advantage of no guests in El Establo, sleeping on the sofa. The stray tabby was eating with Smudge and Marmalade this morning, he's very handsome. Picasso looked lovely in the golden evening light last night and the crescent moon with Venus above was beautiful. The garden is at its peak now, so full of colour and the communal courtyard is such a lovely place to relax, with so much natural shade from the ash tree 🥰.

Bonnie looked gorgeous in the early morning light, can't believe she is heading towards 25! Twiggy and Sierra went out on a ride and Twiggy also had to have the bars on the soles of her feet trimmed as we noticed that they were quite overgrown and causing pressure when she walks. Matilda had a little ride on Lucy while Carlotta inspected the flowers. The girls love the new bench we have put down at the horses for people to sit and watch the horses. Smudge made himself a comfy nest in some irrigation pipe. He also accepted a new little black stray, eating alongside him ❤️. Cheeky little thing, he's not exactly tame but will risk being close to steal Marmalade's food. Are we going to have to think of a name? I painted some more of the stables and even had a bit of help from Clive ( he very rarely paints as he hates it 😁). Spirit typically wasn't as helpful, deciding to have a drink from the water trough just as I'd painted it. We have a lot of blossom on our kumquat trees, hopefully lots more of Clive's lovely jam 😋. The bridge and river at Rio frio were looking extra green and pretty when I went for my hair cut yesterday ❤️. I love cleaning the El establo cottage, it has such beautiful views 😍

This morning we went to learn about bee keeping, the girls were so excited to put on their 'costumes' 🥰. It was really interesting, definitely a new hobby for the future. The morning included a visit to the museum with colouring for the girls and wax candle making. One of the cactus is loaded with flowers and we have brilliant pink Hollyhocks every where. We had our second load of hay delivered yesterday so we now have enough to last until around February and our hay man will store the rest for us. There was one of the horrible big centipedes in the stable this morning, nasty things. This memory came up of little cuties Fern and Bracken from last year, I still can't believe they're both gone 😢. Twenty years ago Lily was doing a demonstration on our first horse Polly 🥰. This old photo of the pool popped up, funny to see it without the trees - you could see the mountains better but the trees give us a lot more shelter when it's windy, no more broken pool umbrellas. Four years ago Lily was giving me a mermaid lesson, great fun!
