"Christmas came a little earlier to children cared by a local orphanage in the Shola neighborhood in Addis Ababa, and it took a festive mood, as in a reading festival organized by Ethiopia Reads staff on the beautiful grounds of Abbaba’s Villa Guest House.
Hundreds of kids and family members were treated to a story time by a local story teller dressed in traditional Ethiopian outfit, and to a dramatized stage performance. To add to the excitement, world’s best known cartoon characters Mickey Mouse and the furry red monster, Elmo from Sesame Street were present. There were inflatable dual lane slides, live resident turtles, refreshments, a canopy booth set up with displays of books to engage, and stimulate the kids imagination. All in all, it was a festive environment all in celebration of books and reading. Throughout the festival, Ethiopia Reads staff were actively engaged with the crowd in bringing awareness and explaining the mission of Ethiopia Reads. “Those Who Read Bloom!”
