It is better to drive over the Passage du Gois at low tide. Hemko took this photo of the poor people with their caravan a few days ago. His picture even made it into the newspaper.

Are you enjoying the sunny weather? At our place, the swimming pool is being used gratefully 😎 The owls chasing away pooping pigeons are watching. Can you picture yourself floating in the sun or the shade? You surely understand that Hemko cleans the pool with pleasure every day 💦😊

We had a lot of activity around our house this weekend due to the Foulees du Gois, with 2,000 runners on the Passage du Gois. With a bit of humor, we kept (almost) all the french men with an urgent need at bay.

This past weekend we made the first batch of jam of the year; apricots. An elderberry bush was heavily pruned, and while cleaning the cottage, we quickly snapped a photo of our banana plantation. We have three flowers so far this year.

To our delight, there are an above-average number of butterflies in the garden. It is beautiful to see, but very difficult to take a good photo of them.

☀️💐Today marks twenty years since we started living in Beauvoir-sur-Mer!💐☀️

The first photo is from June 12, 2006, when we just came back from the notary's office.

The second photo, taken in approximately the same spot, was taken on April 6 of this year, after we had made our final mortgage payment and Au Passage du Gois was truly all ours 😊

The twenty best, but also most intense years of our lives. We look back on them with great pleasure. Many thanks to everyone who made living and working at Le Ménitres a joy! Here's to the next twenty years 👍

Bonjour!

How are you? Things are going well here in Beauvoir-sur-Mer 😊 We are now living in our summer residence 🌻 the garden looks beautiful and we are enjoying the summer just like our guests.

We saw this week beautiful birds on our bird safari, last night we had a fun time playing 'palets' with our guests, and tomorrow we are going to watch when the Passage du Gois fills up again.

But we also have to get to work, of course 😊 This afternoon, among other things, we went for a trip to the bulky waste collection with empty bottles, because the weather was of the thirsty kind for a moment😎 Our swimming pool was already 29°C even in May 🌞

Are you enjoying your weekend? It's sunny here, so gardening is on the planning for this afternoon, but first we are going to rehang four freshly painted fences.

Someone turned 57 this month. We won't mention any names 😊

We also bought a few things for the new summer season. Plates and cups for La Bergerie, alarms for all locations, new tablecloths (which one did you end up buying 😊?) and two magnets for fishing in the seawater.

Our swimming pool is ready for the summer. We are very happy with the new blue liner. What do you think of it?

FINALLY!!! Work is underway on the bike route between our village and Fromentine beach / the bridge to the island of Noirmoutier.

It is not exactly clear to us what is going to happen, but anything is an improvement 😊 We are keeping a close eye on it and are relieved that it is intended to be finished before the summer holidays! Our sincere thanks to our municipality and the Vendée department. We are very happy about it 😊

We will be going to inspect it on our bikes soon 😊 Have a great weekend!

Bonjour, ça va bien? Everything is fine with us! 😊 The summer season has officially started, as the first foreign guests have arrived 🌞

Just a quick update on the last few weeks, because due to all the busyness with painting, pruning, and cleaning, there was less time for Facebook 🖌️🍃🪣

We bought new thermometers for all locations, among other things, and what could possibly be in that big box? Hemko assembled a cupboard in La Bergerie, but it is for our studio. Photos of the final result will follow soon. If you look closely, you can also see a new refrigerator in the background of the photo.

All the garden furniture is now outside, where it currently smells wonderful of the blossoms of the palms and orangetree. Yesterday we discovered a blackbird's nest with three little ones, who looked like they had just hatched. The skittish emerald lizards are also showing themselves again for a brief moment now and then.

Seven big bags of garden waste are discreetly parked, waiting to go to the bulky waste collection. We have now passed the 50 bags mark by a good distance; a record year.

We are very happy with the new liner in our swimming pool. Before and after photos coming soon. There are also some changes in the garden, and hopefully we will finish our painting projects these days. In short, we are not bored at all. And you? Are you happy that the weather is nicer again?

The management of Au Passage du Gois had several things to celebrate (something about so many years together and something about the bank).

Fortunately, we have nothing to complain about regarding the restaurants in Beauvoir sur Mer. They range from a simple crêperie and a restaurant with a 'menu ouvrier' to a number of restaurants where you can eat very well for a very reasonable price. Recently, there is even a restaurant/snack bar where you can get takeout.

But this time we ate somewhere else. At La Bernerie en Retz. At a restaurant with nearly 300 reviews on Google and an average of 5 (!) stars. We wanted to try that for ourselves and our guests too 😊

The food was so delicious that we forgot to take a photo of us together 😊 In the photos, you can see our amuse-bouches, cocktail, starter, main course, Trou Normand, dessert, and some treats with our coffee/tea.

🌸🌺🐣Happy Easter🐣🌺🌸

What are you going to do for Easter? Today we are having a quiet day (Martine is gardening and Hemko is watching the Tour of Flanders). Oh, and we are eating chocolate🍫 We found a surprise when we went to change the beds (you can't see them, but behind the note there were also those delicious Lindt chocolate balls.) ❤️

Tomorrow we are heading out. We haven't decided yet what we are going to do. A flea market or a walk along the beach or perhaps a tour of the island of Noirmoutier or having a drink on a terrace somewhere by the sea or maybe a little bit of everything 😊 And you?

Are you enjoying the weekend? We are recovering from a lovely family visit. For a change, it was nice to be a tourist in our area and visit beautiful Nantes, cycle on the Île de Noirmoutier, watch birds at dusk, taste wine at a producer, and go out for a nice dinner.

But still, a few things happened at our place.

We picked up brochures at our local tourist office's annual fair. Tomorrow, another fair is scheduled in our capital, so we will be fully stocked for the season again.

Martine is eagerly awaiting the plants she ordered from Jacques Briant🌸🌻🌺 The pots are ready 😊

We have a new baker in the village with special bread who also makes delicious salads.

Our shed is looking great again with a fresh coat of paint. We are just still looking for colored iron paint for the two lizards that usually run around at the top.
