Darlings! 🤩
Let me update you with a magical viewing from our Trail cam, set at a bend in our river - the Son-Sonnet ~ The common Genet 🙏
According to AI Claude…”this is a great genet habitat. The Charente’s wooded river valleys, with plenty of riparian vegetation, rocky banks, and small prey, are exactly what genets love”.
In these videos, we likely have a genet patrolling it’s regular territory, setting off on its route, and then returning along the same route about an hour later 👌
From Claude again
“ River valleys like yours act as linear territories - the genet likely patrols a stretch of river bank several kilometres long rather than a circular patch.
Male territories often overlap with one or two female territories, but males are intolerant of other males. You may have one resident animal, or possibly a male and female sharing the corridor.
If the genet appears relaxed and moves purposefully (rather than cautiously exploring) it’s almost certainly a resident animal on a familiar route”.
Well ! How Damn Cool is that! 😎
Disappointingly, we’ve had no further sightings, but for an astonishingly secretive animal, we are beyond happy with this knowledge 👌
