Welcome to Fensmere and delight in the peace and tranquility chasing monsters and creatures of myth. Each angler has similar topographic areas to fish.

Fensmere Lake

The lake itself was created around 80 years ago and is both stream and spring fed. It is at the head of a unique ecosystem where rare Freshwater Pearl Muscles live in the pure waters flowing through the lake. At just over 6 acres with depths ranging from 3 to 14ft and with two shallower areas linked by a shallow far bank marginal shelf. This means that both anglers have equal chance

s of fish and have similar features and areas to target. Each angler therefore has 3 acres of water to themselves with boats provided for each angler to use. Bait boats can also be used for accurate bait placement. The main swim area on the dam can accommodate 2 anglers for a very social fishing session, however, as some anglers like to fish more intimately the designated zones have one other swim each to fish from. We provide barrows for anglers that wish to separate and fish with more subtle tactics. A small anglers hut is located down on the Dam wall and has areas for charging batteries and a small eco toilet which can be used instead of having to retreat to the Gite if you get caught short. Cars and Vans can be taken to the Dam as the track has been graded and graveled. The parking area outside the fisherman’s hut is also graveled. Fensmere Stock
There are 60 fish in the lake of which at least 20 are over 50lb. At the right time of year 3 could be over 70lb with another 2-4 back up 60+ fish. The Leneys are still growing as they were only introduced in 2019 as C1 fish a few inches long. Most are now already over 20lb including some stunning zip linear, scattered linear and fully scaled belters.

🎣 Post-Spawning Action at Fensmere Carp Fishery — An Incredible Week with Kevin & Andy!

What a great week it’s was here at Fensmere ! A week ago we had the pleasure of welcoming back two familiar faces — good mates Kevin Gardner and his good mate Andy Clements — for another unforgettable session on the lake.

Andy’s Redemption Story 🏆
Andy had a tough first visit, losing his only fish. This time, it was all about redemption — and he delivered in style! Andy landed a stunning new personal best of 58lb, an absolutely incredible fish and a moment that had us all buzzing. Unfortunately, a family emergency meant Andy had to leave early, cutting his session short before he could add to his tally. Our thoughts are very much with him and his family. We hope to see him back soon!

Kevin Back Among the Giants 💪
Kevin, a returning regular who smashed a couple of big sixties on his last visit, targeted the lawn and fished with real patience and consistency throughout the week. Despite the tricky post-spawn conditions — the fish were definitely more challenging than usual — he landed three superb fish:

🐟 67lb — an absolute giant
🐟 64lb — another stunning mirror/common
🐟 Mid-40lb — a real character of a fish!

That last one provided the comedy moment of the week. Kevin was carefully preparing the fish in the water when it slipped free, cheekily nutmegging him before making its escape — no weighing, no photo, just pure carp chaos! 😂 Not quite what Kevin had in mind, but the rest of us were very entertained. We know the fish well from previous captures though, so its story continues!

The fish were slightly down in weight post-spawn, as expected this time of year, but remained truly magnificent creatures.

Looking Ahead — Last Week of Summer Fishing 🌅
This weekend we welcome two brand new anglers to Fensmere for their very first session with us — and what a time to arrive! This is our last week before we close for summer and resume fishing in September, and the fish appear to be responding brilliantly after spawning. 🔥 THE GREATEST WEEK EVER AT FENSMERE? 🔥

What a session. What a week. What a pair of anglers.

Andy Barry and Joe Easton have just completed what could quite possibly go down as the BEST WEEK EVER at Fensmere Carp Fishing Holidays 🎣🐟

✅ 24 fish landed
✅ Only 2 fish lost
✅ Multiple 50lb+ carp
✅ Three fish over 30kg for Joe
✅ 68.8lb
✅ 68.8lb
✅ And the incredible 72lb giant 😮🔥

The fish fed consistently right through the week, and it was one of those magical sessions where everything aligned perfectly — the conditions, the feeding spells, the location work, and two very experienced anglers applying top-class tactics.

Fishing traditional styles, staying mobile, accurate baiting, casting tight, and keeping everything sharp… the lads absolutely nailed it.

Even towards the end of the session when things slowed slightly, Joe still slipped the net under the famous Split Lateral late Thursday night before adding another lovely low-20 mirror on Friday morning. Incredible consistency right to the final whistle.

It just proves what Fensmere is capable of when the carp switch on. The lake continues to produce some truly exceptional big carp fishing, and weeks like this are why anglers travel from all over Europe to experience the magic of Fensmere.

The boys headed off to Beynac on Saturday morning after a big breakfast send-off here at the lake… and unbelievably, Joe messaged me last night to say he’d already landed another giant at around 62-63lb! 🤯

This is turning into one of those unforgettable two-week fishing adventures that anglers dream about for years.

🎣🐟 MONSTER MIDWEEK ACTION AT FENSMERE CARP FISHING HOLIDAYS! 🐟🎣

What a sensational Wednesday here at Fensmere Carp Fishing Holidays in the heart of rural France 🇫🇷 – and a day that will live long in the memory for our returning anglers Dave & Glenn.

The morning started with incredible news that Dave had landed the mighty Three Scale at a staggering new top weight of 62lb! 😮🔥

This stunning carp has been a fish we’ve watched develop over the past few seasons, and to now see it break into the magical 60lb bracket in such magnificent spring colours is simply breathtaking. Even more remarkable, this fish has piled on over 14lb since last year – a true testament to the quality of the fish and environment here at Fensmere.

But the action didn’t stop there…

Later in the afternoon, Glenn made a clever move to The Rocky Single swim after introducing a little bait earlier in the week. Fishing just 20 metres off the bank in shallow water, the rod absolutely tore off… and after an epic battle, Glenn slipped the net under none other than the legendary Big Scale!

🐟🔥 71lb 4oz – NEW PERSONAL BEST FOR GLENN! 🔥🐟

For Glenn, a long-term angler and proud BCSG member, this was extra special – his first PB in 10 years. Moments like that are what carp fishing dreams are made of.

Both fish were returned in perfect health and powered away strongly – exactly how we like to see them.

🎣🐟 Monster Start to the Week at Fensmere Carp Fishing Holidays! 🐟🎣

We were delighted to welcome back returning anglers Dave and Glenn to Fensmere Carp Fishing Holidays this week, staying in the lakeside gîte and wasting no time getting among the action! 🇫🇷🏡

These two enjoyed an incredible trip last season, with Dave landing The General at 66lb (his PB at the time), while Glenn had an amazing session with 12 carp including multiple 50lb+ fish. So expectations were high… and they have already been smashed!

🔥 Saturday morning couldn’t have started any better…

Shortly after setting up, I got the call from the lake – Dave had one in the net! Initially thought to be a 50, it soon became clear it was something far more special…

🐟 The Mighty Split Lateral – 68.1lb!

A new top weight for one of Fensmere’s most iconic carp and a brand-new PB for Dave! This huge long fish was in absolutely pristine condition, with crystal clear water showing off its stunning dark back and flawless scales. In another month, this incredible carp could well break the magical 70lb barrier.

And the action didn’t stop there…

⚡ Just 30 minutes later, Glenn was away with a lovely low 40lb stocky carp, one of the younger fish stocked only a couple of years ago that is piling on weight rapidly.

This morning Dave added another smaller upper-double stocky mirror, likely one of the lake-born youngsters – proof that the future of Fensmere is looking brighter than ever.

💥 A fantastic start to the week for two top anglers who know exactly how to get the best from the lake. With conditions looking good, we’re expecting plenty more action and maybe even more giants on the bank before the week is out!

Fensmere Carp Fishing Holidays – Spring Action, Big Rewards!

Last week we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Brad and his dad Steve over from the Isle of Wight for their very first session at Fensmere—despite originally booking with us in our opening year! A proper father-and-son duo, and a real joy to have on the lake.

With rising temperatures and blazing sunshine across the week, conditions were far from straightforward. Across France, some waters switched on… others completely shut down. At Fensmere, the carp were incredibly active, but frustratingly not feeding. Massive hatches and an abundance of natural food made things seriously tricky—proper thinking anglers’ conditions.

But persistence paid off…

Steve was first on the mark with an absolutely stunning 51lb carp, now up nearly 10lb from last season—great to see these fish thriving and growing on!

After a quiet spell midweek, things turned on its head for Big Fish Thursday…

While I was away fishing at Rainbow, the call came through—Brad had done it!

A breathtaking 61lb carp, looking incredible in full spring colours and easily a mid-60lb fish before spawning. A truly special capture and a moment they’ll never forget.

Despite the challenging conditions, it was another fantastic week at Fensmere—great company, beautiful fish, and proper carp fishing at its finest. It was brilliant to catch up with the lads on Friday and see them enjoying the sunshine and everything Fensmere has to offer.

🎣 What a Week at Fensmere! 🎣

Last week was absolutely incredible with Charlie Hayes and Darren Rosser at Fensmere Carp Fishing Holidays. Two amazing lads, some unforgettable fishing, and plenty of laughs along the way.

We shared dinners most nights, a few Grimbergen beers 🍺, and celebrated multiple personal bests. Charlie, fishing the right-hand side, absolutely smashed it with five fish for the week, including Mel (67 lb) and the Mighty General (71.5 lb) – both PBs broken not once, but twice! Watching the elation on his face was a reminder of why lake ownership is so special – sharing those moments with incredible anglers.

It was tougher on the left-hand side for Darren, but he never gave up. Adjusting tactics and moving rods around paid off, and he landed two stunning carp. Then, on the very last night, while chatting to his wife, his middle rod dipped three times… and he battled an absolute beast of a Fensmere carp – 44 lb 4 oz!

Despite the freezing northerlies and bitterly cold conditions later in the week, the lads’ determination and skill shone through. It was an incredible week of fishing, laughter, and memories made.

Brilliant to have you guys here, and I can’t wait for many more epic sessions together. Tight lines, lads! 🐟

🔥🎣 INCREDIBLE MORNING AT FENSMERE CARP FISHING HOLIDAYS 🎣🔥

What a start to the day on the mighty Fensmere Lake!

While I was up at the fish farm checking on my stock, making sure the feeders were running and everything was topped up, I was just about to leave when I got an excited call from Charlie Hayes… “I’ve got a huge one… I think it might be The General!”

It’s about a 15-minute drive, but I made it in 10 — wishing I still had my fully built nitrous oxide RS3, but the old Ranger did the job well enough! 🚙💨

As I walked down to the water, I could already see the elation on Charlie and Darren’s faces. Then I peered into the net… and saw that unmistakable white tip on the tail. I instantly knew — The Mighty General had been captured!

Charlie said the battle was absolutely incredible, and when we hoisted her onto the scales she spun the needle round to 71.5lb 😱🐟

An unbelievable carp, destined to be mid-70s before spawning, and in absolutely pristine condition after coming through the winter. Simply stunning.

Charlie has now smashed his PB twice this week, and moments like this are exactly what Fensmere is all about. It’s not an easy water — the fish don’t come thick and fast because the lake is lightly stocked — but it rewards good angling with truly special carp.

Fensmere really is the lake of dreams.

🎣🔥 The season has well and truly kicked off at Fensmere! 🔥🎣

Charlie and Darren arrived on Friday, got the bivvies set up, and began fishing yesterday morning. After a quiet first day, I got the call around 7am today — they’d nearly had a double take!

Darren was first on the board with a beautiful Leney of 24lb. Then Charlie landed a very rare visitor at 47lb — a fish that hadn’t been named before. He’s now named her Mungo, in memory of Jay from the RidgeMonkey team who sadly recently passed away. A truly fitting tribute, and I’m sure Mungo was looking down from the stars. ⭐

Not long afterwards, Charlie’s rod absolutely ripped off again… and this time it was a new PB!
67lb of pure Fensmere warrior! 💪🐟

Mel, who graced the net at the end of last season, has done it again — an absolutely stunning creature on a beautiful sunny morning.

The boys are frothing, I’m frothing, and Fensmere has officially started. The season is underway for real! 🎉

This is one of the greatest joys of being a lake owner — sharing those personal best moments and seeing the pure happiness in anglers’ faces. It never gets old.

Fantastic angling, lads… COME ON!!! 🙌🎣

🔥🐟 74lb February GIANT at Fensmere! 🐟🔥

After coming over to help me once again – as he always does – my good mate Simon Bletcher decided he fancied a cheeky go at one from Fensmere Fishery as a little reward for all the hard graft he puts in during harvests and general farm duties.

I said, “No problem at all – I reckon there’ll be one or two over on the Rocky Single.”

Simon had done his homework. He’d been trickling bait onto the spot for two days prior, letting it settle nicely. On Saturday, while I was flat out with deliveries and netting, the phone rang as I was heading back…

“I’ve had one.”

Trying (and failing) to stay calm, I said I’d be 10–15 minutes and to keep it in the net.
“It’s upper 50… maybe 60,” he said.

By the time I jumped in the buggy and tore down there, the tone had changed.
“I couldn’t weigh it properly… I think it’s closer to 70.”

We zeroed the scales, hoisted her up… and I knew straight away this was no 60.

74lb exactly.

A new PB for Simon. His first fish from Fensmere. And what a way to christen it.

When I finally opened the sling mesh and saw her properly, I realised it was the mighty Big Scale herself. Absolutely immense to be sitting at 74lb in February. That tells me one thing…

Come spring, before spawning, she could very realistically push the magical 80lb barrier. She’ll easily add another couple of pounds before the end of spring.

Which means… anglers this spring are in for something very special. There could well be multiple upper-70s swimming around… and possibly an 80-pounder.

Simon – I couldn’t be happier for you, mate.
At this rate, you seem to only catch 70-pounders… which is fitting when you’re catching fish heavier than your age – no easy task these days! 😉

Roll on spring at Fensmere. It’s going to be special. 🎣
