Summer is here! It's official, summer has launched in the Alps...with temperatures heading to 30C this weekend, sun in the sky and the lifts, bike trails and swimming pools opening, we are all set for our (favourite?!?) season of the year!
The Portes du Soleil has a packed events schedule over the next 3 months, kicking off with the Ultra-Trail Morzine-Avoriaz RunThrough Trails this weekend, soon to be followed by the Pass'Portes du Soleil Pass'Portes du Soleil - a huge cross-country cycling event for Mountain bikes, eBikes and Gravel bikes. Boutiqe Recommends: Summer Edit

Further Afield....Fancy exploring a little further on your stay in Morzine or Les Gets this summer? Even though there's so much to do in the villages and nearby we never regret jumping in the car to head little further afield. Here's our pick of the day trips you can make...

1. Lac Leman - you really do need to head down to the shores of this beautiful lake, it's only around a 45 minute drive and we would suggest heading to Yvoire, a beautiful medieval village where you can grap a coffee or early lunch and have a stroll around the shady streets. For the afternoon either go to the beach at Excenevex and have a dip in the lake, or head to Thonon - here you could rent a boat for a few hours to enjoy the afternoon sun on the lake or pop to the outdoor pool! Most weekends in summer there are music festivals and events going on in town, and there are plenty of restaurants to enjoy dinner too.

2. Annecy - the perfect mountain town, with a huge lake, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, it really is picture-perfect! Give yourself a whole day here, you can ride bikes around the lake, relax on one of the many beaches, rent a boat or paddle board and of course explore the old town. There is a great ice-cream shop called Glacier des Alpes and in our opinion a day here must absolutely be topped off with a delicious treat from here!

3. Chamonix - we should probably do a whole post on all the things to do in Chamonix, but in a nutshell - go here! It's an hour from Morzine, great for shopping and dining, and then there's the mountains - the Aiguille du Midi cablecar (book in advance!) or the Montenvers Train up to the glacier. Or if you'd like to do both then our favourite itinerary is to do the Aiguille early, descend to the mid-point and then walk the Grand Balcon all the way to the Mers de Glace and see this before heading down on the little red train for dinner in town - an amazing day!

It's market day in Morzine...and the summer market is really something special! As in all towns across France, the local producers arrive with delicious fruit and veg, cheeses, charcuterie, there's even a whole stall dedicated to onions and garlic 🧅
If you're staying here this summer, why not pop down to the market square outside Carrefour on a Wednesday until 1pm and pick up some ingredients for dinner, or treats for a charcuterie platter? Whilst you're there you'll also find artisans selling ceramics, baskets, plants, jewellery and more...

Up next, our pick of summer activities in Morzine...

1. Lake Montriond - a beautiful lakeside walk, multiple cafes/restaurants, minigolf, a children's playground, paddleboards and kayaks to hire, swimming or on sunny Sunday mornings a gorgeous yoga session with Ursula Yoga + Snow

2. Nyon Waterfalls - there is something for everyone here at this beautiful spot in the Vallee de la Manche. From a gentle stroll and a cafe for coffee or lunch to canyoning down the waterfall for high adrenaline! In between, there's a fab new tree-top net course for little ones and a zipline course for older kids.

3, 4 & 5. Parc des Dereches - So many different activities here by the river - pony rides, horseriding courses, fabulous high ropes course for all levels, working watermill, padel & tennis, skate park and of course the

6. Aquatic Centre - featuring both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spa with jacuzzis and saunas, a flume, bouncy castle and this interseason the outdoor kids pool/splash pad is getting a refresh ready for this summer!!

7 & 8. Les Lindarets - the goat village, feed the goats that roam freely and enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants. This is also a great starting point for many a beautiful hike!
