It’s the climb every cyclist dreams of conquering. ⛰️🚴

Few roads in the world have the reputation of Col du Tourmalet.

From its first Tour de France appearance in 1910 to becoming the race’s most frequently visited climb in history, Tourmalet has earned its place as one of cycling’s greatest icons.

But riding it isn’t just about ticking another climb off your list.

It’s about the anticipation as you approach along the beautiful Gorge Luz, the huge views that open dramatically as you enter the ski station, the mercilessly steep final push to the summit, and the feeling of riding in the wheel tracks of so many cycling legends.

At Escape to the Pyrenees, you’re perfectly placed to experience it yourself. The Col du Tourmalet begins just 12 km from our lodge, making it an ideal base for your cycling holiday.

The classic Tourmalet loop is 97 km with around 2,100 m of climbing, and if you’re looking for an even bigger challenge, you can extend your ride to include the pretty Col d’Aspin, the wild Hourquette d’Ancizan, or the Col de Lingous.

Whether it’s your first visit to the Pyrenees or your tenth, Tourmalet is a climb that never gets old (believe us, we’ve ridden it well over 100 times).

Swipe through our Ultimate Guide to discover everything you need to know before taking it on.

Have you conquered Col du Tourmalet, or is it still on your bucket list? Share your experience in the comments.

Early season rides hit different - mountains still covered in snow, but warm enough for summer gear at 1800m on Col de Tentes. Get in touch to start planning your dream cycling holiday. We have a few rooms still available this year.

We're excited to announce a new partnership with to make their fantastic, superlight Sika available to rent direct with us at E2P for the first time. These will be the best rental bikes available in this region and by a long way - much lighter, faster, more adjustable, and better equipped than the next best in the shops.

These will be sub-7kg (15 lb) builds on superlight wheels, with fast tyres, the right gearing, waxed chains and power meters.

Better still, we're building them to be adjustable so you can achieve your ideal position. They'll have separate bars and stems, and we'll have a range of spare stems available to swap in for you. Stem stack height options will be preserved (not slammed like my bike in the photos!) We'll also have a selection of pedals and saddles, or you can bring your own.

If you fall in love with the Sika - which would be understandable - and just have to buy one, you get 10% off with FiftyOne and half your rental cost back!

And the cost for all this? Just a few euros per day more than you'd pay for an 8kg mid-range bike from the shops.

This is rental bikes done the E2P way. We created this business to deliver the holidays we would want to go on, and nothing less. Now, these are the bikes we'd want to rent.

Get in touch to plan your dream holiday with the rental bike to match.
