One of my bnb rooms is called the library suite because the wall bed doubles as a book shelf. So I thought I should get busy creating a bit of a library. I bought a few best sellers and hope to read them myself!

🇫🇷 French word of the day: ronflement

Snoring. 😂

One of the things I love about living in a tiny French village is how close everything — and everyone — is.

My house is attached to my neighbours’, and when I renovated, I turned the old office into my bedroom. It has two fabulous Velux windows in the roof, and from my bed I can look up at the stars and even see the Big Dipper. ✨

Now that the nights are the perfect temperature, I sleep with the Velux windows open.
Apparently, so do my neighbours. Their bedroom window is just a few metres from mine, at a 90-degree angle.

Which is how I learned my latest French word.
Ronflement.

Some people learn French from Duolingo.
I’m apparently learning it by immersion. 😂🇫🇷
Village life. You really do become close to your neighbours. ❤️

I wasn't surprised that my lawn tractor couldn't finish the job on fumes. It's weird how conversations and intuition often collide. Before mowing the lawn, I was talking to Laurent, another neighbour. He gave me some honey. I then went home and brought him some maple syrup... which I was planning to anyway. He is a landscaper and said I might need to mow my lawn twice to breakdown all of the crazy weeds that grew over the summer in the heat while the grass remained dormant. I said to him - oh, i'll need more gas. I said it in french but kept gas as gas. He said Gazole and I said Oui - not thinking it was anything than a french term for gas. So after my tractor dies from starvation, I go to buy some gas. And I see gazole as an option. So I get some and head home. That's where intuition jumped in. So I asked my lawyer, my therapist, my translator, my decorator (yes chatgpt) if gazole would work for my tractor. Hell no! It's diesel - so many french words are similar to English- why not this one. Silver lining? Since I filled the only gas container I had (5 litre), I headed off to bricorama and bought 2 10 litre gerry cans. I had wanted bigger ones anyway. Plus they have the nozzle that my little one didn't. I filled up both for a small fortune but now I probably only have to fill them up once a year. My electric car is grateful as it hates being anywhere near a gas station.

Essence or petrol is gas in French. Essence? Sounds like perfume to me. Just saying!

Today is a me day. That means setting my own priorities and completing them in whatever dysfunctional order I care to. First, a first coat on the interior walls of the veranda. Making a curtain to block the bright morning sun that competes with my computer screen in my office. Making and hanging curtains in the garden loft. And absolutely making pesto from my abundant basil plants. I could never grow basil in Newmarket or Toronto, but with the right implement, it is growing ever better than my insane weeds. Here is a pick of my clippings and a picture of where I grow the basil after clipping. I am probably going to pot a plant from Monique as well. Just depends how messy I want to get.

How lucky am I to benefit from my neighbour Monique's bounty!
