Well, that’s a wrap on Paula’s time at Tigh Na Mara. ❤️

After 16 incredible years, it’s time to close the door on one very special chapter.

In 2010, Paula took over Tigh Na Mara from her mum, Linda, and what followed has been 16 years of hard work, determination, laughter, challenges, friendships, early mornings, late nights and an awful lot of memories.

Over those years, Tigh Na Mara has been transformed. There have been huge room renovations, new bathrooms, gardens and patios brought back to life, evening meals reinstated and alcohol licences regained. And, somehow, amongst all of that, Paula and her team continued to make sure that the most important thing remained exactly the same — giving every guest a warm welcome and an experience worth remembering.

And the recognition has followed…

And then there was Covid. A chapter that tested hospitality businesses everywhere in ways nobody could have imagined. Surviving it was an achievement in itself. ❤️

But none of these achievements happened because of one person. They happened because of people. A very special thank you to Pete & Sarah, Jimbob, Sophie, Lisa, Cameron, Nina and Ciara. Your friendship has meant more than words can express.

And behind Paula, through every high, low, challenge and long day, has been the unwavering strength of Angus. None of this would have been possible without you. ❤️

But ultimately, none of us would have been here without the thousands upon thousands of incredible guests who have walked through the doors of Tigh Na Mara.

Some stayed for a night.
Some came back year after year.
Some arrived as guests and left as friends.
And some have become part of the Tigh Na Mara family.

So, after 16 years, it really is time to say…

The skies above Argyll are about to put on a show 🌌💫

From the Northern Lights dancing overhead to the Milky Way stretching across the sky, Argyll’s remote coastline and islands offer some of the darkest, clearest skies in the country.

WHEN:
The darker months, from late summer into early spring, offer the best viewing conditions once the nights draw in - prime time for both Aurora activity and Milky Way visibility, with the very best Northern Lights chances between October and March.

WHERE:
🌠 Isle of Coll - one of Scotland’s three International Dark Sky Communities in Scotland, with three recognised night-sky viewing sites
🌠 Isle of Gigha (📸) - home to a Milky Way class Dark Sky Discovery Site and Dark Sky Theatre at the north of the island
🌠 Kintyre’s west coast - remote Atlantic-facing locations and low levels of light pollution make it a fantastic mainland option for stargazing
🌠 Isles of Islay & Jura - low light pollution makes for excellent stargazing, with Northern Lights sightings possible too

🌟 Meet the Team – James 🌟

We are almost positive that James is an ornament at this rate!

Officially, he’s our gardener… but in reality, he is so much more! From keeping the gardens looking beautiful, to sparkling glassware, to being our chief pot washer when things get busy, there’s very little he doesn’t turn his hand to.

He’s also our go-to right hand man, always ready to help wherever he’s needed, and has very much become part of the Smalley family – our adopted uncle in residence!

If you’ve stayed with us this summer, you’ve almost certainly seen James in action or heard his random outbursts of song🤣

Thank you, James, for everything you do. We truly couldn’t do it without you, and we’re so lucky to have you as part of the Tigh na Mara family. 💙
