Now that is a beautiful knob… 👀

Unboxing one of the finishing touches for our rather impressive new front door at Sefton Place, courtesy of the brilliant team Vertex Joinery

Solid brass, beautifully made, and exactly the sort of detail we have been obsessing over throughout this project.

We are calling these the finishing touches… although there are still some seriously big jobs happening behind the scenes before we can truly say we are finished.

But piece by piece, detail by detail, it is all coming together. And this one is particularly satisfying. ✨

Quite the grand backdrop for a room full of impressive people and businesses for the Arundel Chamber of Commerce meeting this morning at Arundel Town Hall .

Over the last few months, we have really enjoyed getting to know the people behind Arundel and its business community. There is a huge amount of energy, collaboration and goodwill in the room at every Arundel Chamber of Commerce meeting, and it has been a brilliant reminder of just how powerful local connections and networking can be.

In fact, looking around the room this morning, it struck us just how many of the people there have played some part in the Sefton Place journey, whether through advice, introductions, support, services or simply championing what we are trying to create.

With just a few days to go until we finally open our doors, we cannot wait for Sefton Place to become a genuinely active part of this community and, hopefully, contribute as much as we have already gained from it.

And what surroundings to meet in. Apparently, hanging above us is the very last gas-powered chandelier in Europe. Thank you to Laura Mott for the history lesson and for sharing some of the fascinating story behind the room!

It also made us even more excited about our next Arundel adventure: taking on the hosting of the brand-new Visit Arundel Podcast.

We can’t wait to sit down with many of the incredible people and businesses we have met, get to know them in more detail, discover what makes them tick and uncover some of the stories, characters and ideas that make Arundel such a special place.

Not long now… 🎙️

Facebook served up one of those memories today that stops you in your tracks… ❤️

Fourteen years ago, August Bank Holiday weekend, our then four-year-old son Joe was rocking out in Jubilee Gardens at the Arundel Festival. 🎶

For more than 20 years, Arundel has been part of our lives. We have visited family here, spent countless Bank Holiday weekends at the Festival, eaten, drunk, walked, explored and made an awful lot of memories here.

So this week has felt like a bit of a pinch-me, full-circle moment…

Have you seen the news? 👀

Caroline and I have officially been announced as the hosts of the brand new Visit Arundel Podcast, launching at the end of September! 🎙️

We will be meeting and chatting to some of the brilliant people who make Arundel and the surrounding area what it is, sharing their stories and celebrating the places, businesses, events and characters that make this little corner of Sussex so special.

Of course, what most people do not know is that Caroline has essentially been a one-woman mouthpiece for Arundel for the last 20+ years anyway… she just gets a microphone and an official title now. 😂🎙️

From bringing a four-year-old Joe to the Arundel Festival to now getting the opportunity to help tell the stories of the town we have loved for so long.

Yep. Definitely a full-circle moment. ❤️

We cannot wait to get started.

Unboxing some seriously chunky antique brass door furniture for our seriously impressive new front door at Sefton Place. 🚪✨

It is all in the details… and these are definitely not subtle ones.

DIY SOS, eat your heart out… 😅

Seven days to go until the build is due to be finished, and there is still an absolute mountain to climb. It is going to be one very big final push! 🏗️⏳

A very welcome change of scenery yesterday, swapping the dust of the Sefton Place building site for bubbles on Arundel High Street! 🥂

A huge thank you to Michelle and the amazing team Digby Fine English for such wonderful hospitality. It was inspiring to hear more about their big plans, taste some of their beautiful English sparkling wines, and explore all the ways we might work together to create something special for our guests.

One of the things we are most excited about at Sefton Place is collaborating with brilliant local businesses to create memorable experiences — and helping more people discover that Arundel is so much more than a day-trip destination. There is plenty here to fill a few days, and plenty of reasons to stay a little longer.

After a particularly busy and stressful day on site, the opportunity to sit down with a glass of Digby fizz was very welcome indeed! With just a few days to go until the build is supposed to be complete, it was also rather nice to forget about dust, snagging and construction for an hour and start thinking about what life at Sefton Place might actually look like once it is all finished.

We cannot wait to welcome Digby’s to Sefton Place as part of our launch events this September — hopefully the first of many things we will do together. 🥂✨

The monthly Arundel Farmers Market has come to represent so much more to us than just an excuse to eat something delicious. Although, to be fair, that helps. 😂

It is a reminder of Arundel at its bustling best. The streets full of people, independent traders doing what they do best, and visitors enjoying everything that makes this little town such a special place.

But most importantly, for us, it is a chance to take a break.

To step away from the dust, dig out the one outfit we both own that is not permanently covered in building debris, and come and have a taste, quite literally, of what life might look like when all of this is done.

A little glimpse of the future. When we finally find a home here ourselves. When weekends do not revolve around renovations. And when a trip into town does not have to end with us heading straight back to a building site.

It is also a chance to bump into the friends we have made along the way, say hello to familiar faces, and support the brilliant independent business owners who make Arundel tick.

And my first stop?

Always a sfogliatella from Sitalia Deli . 🇮🇹🥐

One day this will just be our Saturday.

For now, it is a pretty good reminder of exactly why we are doing all of this. ❤️

🥓 An Arundel institution… and an old favourite of ours.

Partners cafe has become something of an institution in Arundel, and for us, it goes back a fair few years.

Whenever we used to come down to visit our relatives who lived on Maltravers Street, one of the first things my brother-in-law and I would do was take a stroll into town and head straight to Partners for a proper Partners breakfast.

Fast forward a few years and, having been on something of a health kick for the last 12 months, I have done my best to stay away from the temptation of a full fried breakfast.

Yesterday, I finally succumbed. 😂

And if you are going to do it, you may as well do it properly… so naturally I went for the Partners Special.

When it arrived, I genuinely thought it might defeat me.

That concern did not last particularly long. 🍳🥓☕️

Partners might be a small little cafe, but it is always bustling and is a genuine locals favourite. No gimmicks, no fuss, just a proper slap-up breakfast and exactly the sort of independent local business that gives Arundel its character.

If you are visiting Arundel and arrive hungry, you know where to go.

🚪 A grand entrance in the making…

Another exciting milestone for Sefton Place, and one we have been looking forward to for a long time.

Nobody has a bottomless budget so the real skill lies in figuring out where to save, where to compromise, and where it is worth spending the big bucks.

And the front door was always going to be one of those places where we knew we would need to splash to cash!

It will be the first impression for every guest who arrives at Sefton Place. The moment they step through the door should set the tone for everything that follows.

Doing away with the tatty commercial fire door and restoring the entrance back to its original grand proportions was always top of the wish list for us. Now we have commissioned a bespoke new door that feels completely in-keeping with the character and grandeur of the house and that was something we were never going to scrimp on.

There are plenty of areas behind the scenes where we have had to be clever with the budget, but sometimes you have to recognise the details that will make the difference.

This is definitely one of them. ❤️

We cannot wait to show you the finished entrance once the new door fully dressed with some fancy door furniture!

Thank you to Sam, Wendy and the team Vertex Joinery- Another amazing local business who are helping to bring this beautiful Victorian country house back to life. Their service from start to finish has been top draw and the finished product is a masterpiece!

We met Wendy at one of our first Arundel Chamber of Commerce meetings- we have been blown away by the support from the Arundel business community and the talented local trades we have in the area.
