Congratulations to Caroline, co-owner of The Hideaway Experience, on being awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours.

Caroline has received this award in recognition of her contribution to Scotland's Agritourism Sector and the wider rural economy.

Alongside running The Hideaway Experience, Caroline has been campaigning for the past twenty years for wider recognition for farm tourism, hospitality and direct retailing of farm produce as a key economic opportunity. Caroline studied agritourism as part of a Nuffield Scholarship in 2012 visiting ten countries to research the sector.

Caroline's insights from running her own business have allowed her to convey the challenges and perspectives of farmers effectively with key stakeholders.

Caroline founded Scottish Agritourism as a sector body in 2020 and has co-chaired the National Strategy Board for Agritourism with the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs over the past four years.

newest little neighbours.

Right beside the Hideaway you will find our playful pet
lambs, full of energy and curious personalities.

Once they have grown a bit they will join the rest of the
flock on bigger pasture but for now guests can enjoy
watching them bounce around this field.

Hideaway Experience co-owner Caroline Millar, has been honoured with the prestigious Trade Organisation Woman of the Year award at the National Women in Agriculture Awards in London. The award recognises Caroline’s outstanding leadership and dedication to agritourism in Scotland and a transformative impact on the wider agricultural sector.

Speaking on receiving the award, Caroline said: "I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition. This award reflects the collective efforts of so many passionate individuals working to grow and strengthen agritourism, farming and tourism across Scotland. I am proud to represent a sector that is innovative, resilient, full of opportunity and where women are strongly represented as business owners and leaders.“

The judges praised Caroline’s exceptional dedication and leadership, noting her ability to inspire change and deliver meaningful outcomes for the agricultural community.

Caroline and the Hideaway Experience and Scottish Agritourism team had a great time celebrating at the awards ceremony.

Did you catch Hideaway owners Caroline and Ross on this week's BBC Landward?

Landward are celebrating 50 years since the first programme and the programme showed Landward footage from 20 years ago just after the Romantics Hideaway opened.

The programme also showcased the rising agritourism movement in Scotland and the growth of the sector over the past two decades. Caroline is the Sector Lead for Agritourism in Scotland and discussed the value of the sector now worth £292 million to the Scottish economy.
