Back where it all began. Long before the Ballachulish bridge, the only way across the narrows was by ferry, and the village grew up around that crossing. The bridge opened in 1975 and the ferry stopped for good, though the old slipways are still there if you know where to look, not far from our door!

Before Ballachulish Bridge was built, there was a wee ferry. For centuries, this was how people crossed the narrows, queuing for a boat instead of driving straight across, weather permitting and patience required! The ferries carried passengers, cars and everything in-between, right past where the hotel stands today.
