Trashion Club Visit Vivienne Westwood Exhibition at The Bowes Museum
Last month, members of Trashion Club headed to The Bowes Museum to visit the incredible Vivienne Westwood exhibition as part of preparations for our upcoming Trashion Show.

The trip gave young people the chance to explore Westwood’s bold approach to fashion, sustainability, rebellion, and self-expression. From iconic tartans and corsetry to reworked fabrics and powerful political messaging, the exhibition sparked loads of conversations around how fashion can be used to challenge ideas and tell stories.

The group spent time sketching, taking notes, and looking closely at the detail and craftsmanship behind the garments. It was especially inspiring for our young designers who are currently creating their own outfits for the Trashion Show using donated and pre-loved clothing from Butterwick Hospice Charity Shop.

For many of the young people, it was their first experience seeing high-fashion garments up close in a museum setting, and it really opened up discussions about creativity, identity, and the possibilities of upcycling fashion instead of throwing clothes away.

The visit has already influenced ideas back in the workshop, with young people experimenting more confidently with layering, deconstruction, embellishment, and unusual fabric combinations.

Trashion Club is completely youth-led, and this trip was all about giving young people new experiences, inspiration, and confidence in their own creative voices. We can’t wait to share the final designs at the upcoming Trashion Show!

At the door of the Hub, you're greeted by an amazing team of volunteers who meet and greet, making sure everyone knows what's where and who is who. Our reception team does such a fantastic job supporting the organisation and staff, as well as all our visitors and regular community members. Whether you need a cuppa or some bread, to know where to make a pot, learn how to play the drums, learn taekwondo, they help. When people visit and tell us what a welcoming space this is, that is in part due to this wonderful team. So, a big shout out to our receptionists... Thank you for opening the door, answering the phone and doing everything else in-between! You're the beating heart of TCR 😊✨

Over the past year, young people from rural County Durham have been exploring how limited transport affects their lives, opportunities, and wellbeing.

Through creative workshops, discussions, and research, they’ve documented the challenges of accessing education, employment, healthcare, social activities, and more when living in isolated areas.

On 10th July they’ll share their findings through an immersive art exhibition, giving visitors the chance to experience rural transport inequality from a young person’s perspective.

With transport reform on the horizon, the exhibition will bring together young people, decision-makers, and transport stakeholders to spark important conversations about the future of rural connectivity.

A huge thank you to all of our amazing DofE volunteers! 💙

From supporting our young people on expeditions and looking after their wellbeing, to driving the minibus, helping at checkpoints, refilling water bottles, and taking care of the countless tasks behind the scenes, your support is invaluable.

Your time, energy, patience, and encouragement help our participants achieve things they never thought possible. We simply couldn't run our DofE programme without you, and we're incredibly grateful for everything you do.

Thank you Dave, Jo and Jane for being such a fantastic team and for helping create unforgettable experiences for our young people. ⭐

Does your child or grandchild care about nature, wildlife, recycling or protecting the environment? If so, our essay competition for Year 5 and 6 pupils attending a Teesdale school may be of interest.
The finished piece could take the form of a persuasive report or letter, it could take the form of an information leaflet, or it could even take the form of a story. It is up to them!
The competition offers pupils the chance to express themselves and demonstrate an understanding of climate change as an environmental issue.
Contact us at [email protected] and we'll send you full details of the competition

As we continue celebrating our amazing volunteers this week, we'd like to shine a spotlight on some of the wonderful people who help keep the Hub running smoothly.

A huge thank you to our dedicated gardening/ grounds team Ambrose, Dave, Brian, Nick and Evelyn. Looking after the Hub's grounds is no small task, but they do an incredible job, taking great pride in keeping everything looking its best. They’re always ready with a friendly smile and a chat, brightening the day for everyone who visits.

We’d also like to say a special thank you to our fantastic minibus drivers. Thanks to their time and commitment, local people can attend events, enjoy days out, and take part in visitor experiences they might otherwise miss.

Your hard work, kindness and dedication make a real difference to our community, and we are so grateful for everything you do ❤️

There’s always a lot happening at the TCR Hub when it comes to supporting our community with food, and none of it would be possible without our incredible volunteers.

From collecting surplus food from local supermarkets and delivering food hampers to those who need them, to helping with community lunches, school gate runs, and our community pantry, our volunteers play a vital role every single day.

It’s a huge team effort, and we are so grateful for the time, energy, and kindness our volunteers give. Your dedication helps us reach more people and make a real difference in our community.

Thank you for everything you do – we truly couldn’t do it without you. ❤️
