One of the advantages of having the whole house to yourselves - everyone can sit down together.

At Buckland there has been plenty of big dinners, birthday meals, wedding celebrations and long tables filled with family and friends over the years.

When you’re bringing a big group away, having the space to get everyone around one table makes a difference.

Buckland lit up after a wedding here a few years ago, under a very clear night sky.

We’ve had some brilliant celebrations here over the years and always enjoy coming across old photographs from them.

Planning a retreat for 2027?

Buckland has hosted yoga and wellness weekends for years, and the house works particularly well for groups looking for somewhere they can stay and run their retreat all in one place.

There’s plenty of room for group sessions indoors, as well as the gardens and 280 acres of grounds when the weather allows.

If you’re looking for a Devon venue for your next retreat, get in touch and we can tell you more about hosting it at Buckland.

The lake from above.

Buckland sits within 280 acres of grounds, and this view gives you a good idea of just how much space there is beyond the house itself.

The lake is surrounded by woodland and fields and is only a short walk from the house. Guests can walk around it during their stay, and there’s coarse fishing for anyone who fancies it.

One of the nicest things about a wedding at Buckland is that nobody has to rush home.

The ceremony, the meal, the dancing and the morning after all happen in the same place, surrounded by the people you’ve invited to share it.

It feels less like hiring a venue and more like borrowing a beautiful country house for the weekend.

Buckland isn’t only for weddings.

The house has welcomed business retreats, yoga weekends, creative workshops and family celebrations for years.

With plenty of space indoors and out, groups can come together, spread out when they need to, and make the house their own for a few days.

However you choose to spend your time here, Buckland provides the perfect setting.

Summer is starting to draw to a close at Buckland.

The evenings are getting a little shorter, but we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to days around the pool and time spent outside just yet.

Who else is hoping for a few more sunny September days?

Lovely to see this way of doing things getting some attention!

This article caught our eye recently. It looks at a meadow in Norfolk that has been allowed to develop naturally, without planting wildflower seed mixes, and it’s very similar to the way the meadow at Buckland has been managed for years.

Nothing has been planted here either. The meadow is left to grow through the summer, then cut for hay once the flowers have seeded.

It’s a simple approach, but over the years we’ve seen more wildflowers coming through and the meadow is always busy with butterflies, bees and other insects in the summer.

Farmer Derek Sayer let a boggy field run wild and just one annual hay-cut has led to remarkable biodiversity

No identical rooms. No long hotel corridors.

Just 17 bedrooms, each with its own character, ready for a house full of family or friends.

One of the nicest parts of arriving is choosing your room for the week.
