Dear Visitor,
Gwynedd Council is currently consulting on the introduction of a Visitor Levy : a charge that would apply to anyone staying overnight in paid accommodation in the county, including the Snowdonia/Eryri National Park. The consultation closes on 15 July 2026, and the council is inviting views from visitors as well as residents and businesses.
You can complete the survey here: https://arolwg.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/index.php/612975?newtest=Y&lang=en
The earliest the levy could begin is October 2027, and the proposed rate is £1.30 + VAT per person per night. For a family of four staying for a week, this would add £43.68 to the cost of a holiday.
Because the levy applies only to overnight visitors, it places a greater cost on those who stay in the area rather than day trippers. Small accommodation providers like us would also need to collect and administer the charge on behalf of the Welsh Revenue Authority.
As your host, I want to ensure that visitors’ voices are heard in this process. You are the people who would be paying the levy, and your views matter. Whether you support the idea, oppose it, or simply want to influence how any money raised should be spent, your feedback will help create a more balanced picture.
I am also working with other local businesses to ensure that, if the levy is introduced, the funds are used to support the visitor experience : including footpaths, facilities, and the natural environment that brings people here.
If you choose to take part in the consultation, please feel free to share your thoughts openly. Every response helps ensure that decisions reflect the views of the people who enjoy and support this special place.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for being part of our community of visitors. Please feel free to share this with your friends.
Kind regards,
Anthony Williams
