Blackpool, what a moment. We’re in the final four for UK City of Culture 2029!

Here at The Grand, we couldn’t be prouder to see our town shortlisted alongside Sheffield, Wrexham and Milton Keynes. Our Chief Executive, Adam Knight, was interviewed this morning by BBC North West Tonight about this exciting moment for Blackpool.

And the timing couldn’t be more fitting. This week, through our partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company, we’re bringing First Encounters: Julius Caesar to St Mary’s Catholic Academy, with the incredible Dame Harriet Walter playing Brutus. World-class theatre, here in a local school, giving young people the chance to experience Shakespeare up close and discover where their own creativity could take them.

We see what these opportunities mean every day. The excitement of a first theatre visit. A young person finding their confidence. Families laughing together, and audiences leaving with something they’ll remember long after the curtain comes down.

Across Blackpool, artists, performers, volunteers, teachers and community groups are making moments like these happen. This bid is a chance to celebrate their work and help more people take part.

Winning would bring £10 million towards a year of culture and creativity, opening up opportunities for local people and giving more young talent the chance to grow here, in the town they call home.

Almost 30,000 people have already backed Blackpool’s bid. Now we have a wonderful opportunity to turn that belief into something lasting.
