With a play area, cafes, second hand book shop, accessible walks, garden centre and over 80 acres of gardens, meadow and woodland to explore, really is a great day out for all the family. Dogs are even welcome at certain times of the year!

The Laburnum Arch is a highlight of spring for us at the Isallt. It is usually in its full glory from late May-early June so not long until it looks like the final picture!

Fancy experiencing it for yourself? Head to the link in our bio to start planning your North Wales adventure.

Happy May 1!

This time of the year has been significant to many cultures for centuries, and Wales is no exception.
Calan Mai was a special day of in Wales marking the arrival of summer and the renewal of the natural world. While Calan Mai is no longer widely celebrated, it’s rooted in ancient Celtic traditions and closely linked to celebrations like Beltane and May Day.
Associated with fertility, growth, and protection, historically, communities would come together to light bonfires, decorate homes with hawthorn branches, (rituals believed to ward off bad spirits and invite good fortune for the season ahead) and gather to welcome and celebrate longer days and warmer weather.

Why not welcome in the new season with a Welsh adventure. Head to the link in our bio.

🚂 All aboard 🚂
The railway is now open for the 2026 season!

At the Isallt we are a stones throw away (literally) from the Blaenau Ffestiniog train station, the end of the line for the famous Ffestiniog steam railway.
The Ffestiniog railway is the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway and is part of the UNESCO ‘slate landscape of North Wales’ World Heritage Site, cool eh?

🛤️ What services stop in Blaenau Ffestiniog?
The Quarryman: Blaenau Ffestiniog - Porthmadog
Follow the path of the old slate trains as they took their load from the mines of Ffestiniog to the harbour in Porthmadog. There is time to explore the harbour before your journey back.

Mountain Spirit: Porthmadog - Blaenau Ffestiniog
Sit back and watch the North Wales landscape roll past your window as you travel from Porthmadog to the town that roofed the world.

🧺 Is food provided?
There are a number of food options including a selection of picnic hampers prepared right here at the Isallt (including delicious homemade items) that you can preorder with your train ticket. They go down an absolute treat and are a great way to enhance your experience.

🐾 Are furry friends allowed?
Yes! The Ffestiniog railway is fun for all the family. Dogs are welcome on several of the services with their own ticket.

For full details about bringing your four legged friend on a steam train adventure, timetables and more information, take a look at the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways website.
