May is a month of almost constant change in the countryside. As soon as the bluebells and wild garlic start to fade in the woodlands, the campions and cow parsley fill the verges with foams of white and pink. When the bright dandelions turn to fluff, the buttercups rise up to take their place in the fields, with hawthorn flowers in every hedgerow. Soon the foxgloves and poppies will add their colours, and honeysuckle will be draped across the green like bunting. It feels as if Nature is conducting some wild orchestra, each player taking its turn to add their notes to the song.
