In Pembrokeshire tomorrow the partial solar eclipse is expected to cover up to 94% of the sun , starting around 6.15pm and expected to be at maximum coverage around 7.13pm.

On Wednesday 12 August 2026, a partial solar eclipse will be visible across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

It's a rare and exciting event that many people will be keen to watch. But looking directly at the Sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight.

Here are some tips to protect your eye-sight while enjoying the partial solar eclipse:

1. Never use regular sunglasses to look at the Sun during an eclipse.
2. Use genuine eclipse glasses with specially designed filters that meet the international safety standard ISO 12312-2:2015(E) (if you have any old ones from 1999, please don’t use these!)
3. use a pinhole viewer, which you can easily make at home
4. view the Sun's image projected through a colander or the gaps between tree leaves
5. project the Sun's image onto a sheet of paper using a simple pinhole projector.

Whichever method you choose, make sure you follow guidance carefully. The Royal Astronomical Society has published detailed, practical advice on all of these approaches https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/space-astronomy/how-see-12-august-2026-partial-solar-eclipse

Looking forward to the Eisteddfod, which starts on Saturday, just a few miles from us, near Cardigan. This National festival celebrates all things Welsh - language, culture, arts & music. We look forward to welcoming guests who are going and we hope to attend ourselves.
