Some celebrations need more than a table for twelve.

From October, you can book the entire Ryebeck Hotel for your event: all 27 rooms, the whole building, just your people. It’s the kind of thing that works for a wedding weekend, a big family reunion, or a milestone birthday where half the fun is everyone staying under one roof. Breakfast is included at The Giddy Goose, so mornings are sorted too.

Last night we had the pleasure of hosting Peter Sanderson and his family before today’s big challenge.

Peter stayed at The Ryebeck with his wife and daughter Ida ahead of his 100km ultra marathon across the Lake District, raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust and Little Lady Locks in support of Ida’s own journey over the past year.

The Giddy Goose menu has changed again this week, and if you only try one thing off it, make it the rabbit ballotine.

Derek’s wrapped a pork and apricot stuffed wild rabbit loin in bacon and set it on a garlic and rosemary fondant potato, with roots done three ways: a parsnip and carrot purée, crushed carrot and swede loaded with butter and thyme, and roasted celeriac alongside purple carrots. Then there’s the jus, reduced for six days until it’s thick and glossy, doing far more work than gravy has any right to.

The rest of the menu has shifted too, from the smoked kipper starter to a 10oz ribeye, so there’s plenty to explore beyond the headline act.

We have a guest with us this week taking on something extraordinary.

Peter Sanderson is staying at The Ryebeck ahead of a 100km ultra marathon across the Lake District on Saturday 5 September. He’s running in memory of the past year, for his daughter Ida, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer twelve months ago and has faced treatment, hospital stays and more than any young person should have to.

Peter is raising money for two charities that have supported Ida and his family throughout: Teenage Cancer Trust and Little Lady Locks, which provides wigs and hair-loss support for children and young people going through cancer treatment.

Our Christmas Fayre menu runs 20th November to 30th December — three courses £29, two courses £26. (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day get their own menu, coming soon.)
