Dog Friendly, 5 Star, A-listed Historic Self-catering Holiday Cottage in Braemar with Hot Tub and Sauna - Sleeps 2. In the heart of the Cairngorms National Park

Downie’s Cottage is thought to be have been the highest working ‘croft’ in Scotland located high on the shoulder of Morrone with breathtaking views over the village of Braemar and the Dee valley in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The property was abandoned sometime between the wars and although the steading was damaged by fire many years ago, the house remained largely as an undisturbed time capsule complete with box beds and victorian christmas cards. On discovering this gem Historic Scotland has determined it is a building of national importance and has listed it as Category A and it is currently being restored to provide a new lease of life for the 21st Century.

We’ve just got back from Scotland this evening, and I’ve got hundreds of photos to go through over the next few weeks!

Here’s one of the first to make it through — a true Scottish wild Red Squirrel, photographed at one of the beautiful locations we stayed at Downie's Cottage.

There’s something really special about seeing these beautiful little squirrels in their natural surroundings.

Plenty more Scottish wildlife and landscapes to come!
