To the guests of Granary Cottage, friends and family,

The proposed Visitors Levy for Perth and Kinross.

I have a request . . . if you have enjoyed your stay in Perth and Kinross regardless
of staying at my cottage or not, please, please take five minutes to complete the attached consultation questionnaire about Perth and Kinross Council introducing a Visitors Levy.

The current proposal is for an uncapped, nightly fee costing an extra £4.00 a night, VAT will also be charged on top of this if it is applicable. This will be charged to ALL guests, regardless of where you are visiting from, overseas or the UK - Scottish residents will also have to pay*.

This is not a fair Visitors Levy it is a vastly over inflated accommodation tax.

My personal fear is that this will make
visiting Perthshire far too expensive and the money raised will be quickly swallowed up elsewhere and it will not be used to support tourism. Visitors will simply choose to wild camp rather than pay for campsites or stay at unlicensed short term lets. Several local business have already indicated that they will close if this Levy is introduced.

I am not against a visitors tax, I happily pay it when travelling abroad (usually €1.00 a night) but if it is to be introduced in Perth and Kinross it must be a fair and proportionate tax.

*Perth and Kinross residents will have to pay the tax initially and will then complete a process in order to claim it back.
