Something spooky is happening at The Moda House… 👻

We have a building that's more than 400 years old. A history that includes being home to the Bank of Chipping Sodbury, and walls that have probably seen a few things over the years… 👀

But it turns out we're surrounded by quite a bit of history too.

Chipping Sodbury itself dates back to the 12th century, when the town was deliberately planned around its wide market street.

St John the Baptist Church dates back to 1284.

The Market Cross has been part of the town since 1349.

And The George Hotel was already welcoming overnight guests as far back as 1439 - including pilgrims travelling between abbeys.

So when we say there's a lot of history around here, we're not exaggerating!

And if you happen to hear a creaky floorboard or a strange noise while you're staying with us this Halloween…

Well… we're sure there's a perfectly sensible explanation. 👀🎃

Don't worry though. These days, we're mostly concerned with making sure our guests have a good night's sleep. 😉

Happy Halloween from Jo, Duncan, Rosie 🐾 & Donna 🎃

🌺 THE STORY BEHIND THE POPPY CASCADE – ONE IDEA, 5,836 POPPIES AND AN INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY.

Every special project starts somewhere, and for The Moda House Poppy Cascade, it started with an idea from Duncan.

Inspired by the history of nearby Little Sodbury, a Thankful Village, one of the very few villages in Britain where all those who went away to serve in the First World War returned home, Duncan wanted to create something meaningful to mark Remembrance in Chipping Sodbury.

What began as a conversation soon became a much bigger vision.

Duncan brought the idea to life with the help of an incredible group of people, who each played their part.

❤️ Jo Lovell at The Wool Cellar , brought together a wonderful team of knitters and crocheters, who dedicated countless hours to making the poppies.

❤️ Tim Wilkinson, an experienced film and television prop master, helped bring the vision to life, working alongside Joe Craig to tackle the practical challenges of creating and installing the display.

❤️ And, of course, the many volunteers, supporters and members of the community who gave their time, skills and encouragement.

The final result is quite extraordinary.

5,836 handmade poppies now cascade across the front of The Moda House in Chipping Sodbury. That's roughly 60 days of continuous knitting and crocheting!

But this project is about more than creating a beautiful display. It is also raising funds for the Royal British Legion British Legion, supporting serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families.

If you'd like to support the appeal, donations are still welcome:

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped make this idea a reality.

And a special thank you to RichMcD Photography Photography for capturing the installation in such wonderful photographs and video, documenting the hard work and bringing the finished display to life for everyone to see.

Please take a moment to watch Duncan share the story behind the project.

And if you haven't seen the cascade in person yet, we'd love you to come and see it.

One idea. 5,836 poppies. A whole community coming together to remember. ❤️

🌺 5,836 POPPIES. ONE INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY.

Wow. Just look at what Chipping Sodbury has created!

The Poppy Cascade is now in place at The Moda House, and we think you'll agree it looks absolutely incredible.

What started as an idea has become something truly special, with 5,836 handmade poppies bringing a spectacular display of red, purple and white to the front of The Moda House.

That's roughly 60 days of continuous knitting and crocheting, an extraordinary amount of time, care and creativity.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible: Jo The Wool Cellar and the wonderful team of knitters and crocheters, everyone who gave their time and skills behind the scenes, and all those who supported the project along the way.

And a special thank you to RichMcD Photography for capturing the installation in photographs and video, despite the rain!

We are incredibly proud to be part of such a wonderful community project.

Have you seen the cascade yet? What do you think?

We'd love to hear from you in the comments. ❤️

🌺 5 DAYS TO GO UNTIL THE POPPY CASCADE!

Over 5,000 handmade poppies. Countless hours of work. One incredible community effort. ❤️

This Saturday, 24 October, something truly special will begin to take shape at The Moda House in Chipping Sodbury.

What started as an idea from Duncan has grown into an extraordinary community project, bringing together Jo and her talented team of knitters and crocheters at The Wool Cellar, film and television prop master Tim Wilkinson, Joe Craig and many others who have generously given their time and skills.

Every poppy has its own story, and every single one represents the care and dedication that has gone into making this ambitious project possible.

And now comes the exciting part: bringing them all together to create a spectacular cascade across the front of The Moda House, in time for Remembrance.

🌺 Would you like to be part of it?

The project is raising funds for the Royal British Legion, supporting those who have served and those who need help in the future.

❤️ You can support the appeal by sponsoring a poppy in memory of a loved one through the JustGiving page:

https://www.justgiving.com/page/chippingsodburybigpoppyproject

We can't wait to see this incredible idea become reality and share the finished display with you.

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped make it happen!

400+ years of history.

That's quite a story.

The building that is now The Moda House has stood on Chipping Sodbury High Street for centuries.

It was once home to the Bank of Chipping Sodbury, and the bank actually published its own bank notes, examples of which are held in a London bank museum.

In 1795, the building was owned by Ebenezer Ludlow, a well-known local man, with Septimius Hardwicke in occupation.

Towards the end of the 19th century, it became known as View House, when Dr Alfred Grace lived and ran his medical practice from the building. He was related to the famous cricketer W.G. Grace.

The name Moda came later, chosen by Dr Haig Sarafian, who came to live and work in Chipping Sodbury and named the house after a suburb of Constantinople where he grew up.

Then, in the early 1970s, following refurbishment, the building became a hotel.

Today, it's The Moda House, an independent B&B with eight individually styled bedrooms.

And that's one of the things we love about the building.

The rooms aren't all identical. Some retain original features, and every part of the house has its own character.

Because when a building has been standing for more than 400 years, there's bound to be a few stories in the walls.

And we're rather lucky to be part of its next chapter. ❤️
