For generations, the Royal Oak has been part of life in Cullen—a place to meet, stay, celebrate and find companionship.
A hotel’s place in a community goes well beyond food and accommodation. It’s somewhere to meet friends, bring family together, hold meetings or simply enjoy a coffee and a friendly conversation. For someone on their own, that welcome can make a real difference to their day.
We’re proud to be a successful, established business, providing local jobs, supporting local suppliers and welcoming visitors who spend time and money throughout Cullen.
That success comes from hard work, continued investment, a dedicated team and the support of our customers. Hospitality is not an easy career, please never be offended if it’s not for you. There are spaces and places for all but maybe not in this fast paced environment!
On a personal basis, I was farming for over 30 years in Argyll and the high peaks of Loch Lomond, through Foot and Mouth, BSE, and many other challenges. As with many others, my life has been full of challenges. Livestock farming is possibly the best training you will ever get in resilience! I reopened the Royal Oak in Cullen in 2018, after being closed for 8 years. I am the first to admit it has not been easy, however I am very proud to be one of the biggest employers in Cullen!
When I speak up about rising costs and fair trading conditions, it’s because I care about protecting everything this place contributes to our community. We want the Royal Oak to keep thriving, welcoming people and bringing them together for generations to come.
Thank you to our team, customers, neighbours and friends. You are all part of the Royal Oak’s story. I love each and everyone of you! You may have been carried away with fake journalism!! But hey!! Seems to be the new way of publicity!!
We try our very best to be collaborative and supportive to all businesses in the community despite what you read in the media and socials!
The photos below depict wonderful guests from Australia and USA enjoying our Cullen Skink Odyssey and Barrie Stevenson featuring in Meet the Author with our book club and friends this evening with almost the other half too shy to be in the photo!
